I've heard prolonged night shift work can increase the risk of everything from heart disease to cancer. Anyone else read up on any of that?

I believe it. I've heard that about shiftwork in general, not just for us night dwellers.
But who really wants to live forever?
  • I like the way you think Dream! We crawlers are always lacking for sleep and rest, so I take when I need it. I don't feel guilty anymore if I have to go back to bed in the morning or afternoon.

Quality of life is so much better than quantity of life.

it is true sadly, it apparantly takes about 10 years off of our life span due to the body clock being out of synch...especially if you work rotation shifts since it never gets the chance to be in synch.....however...there are lots of advantages also I feel, such as going to work when everyone else is rushing to get home......hehe...
  • But....I feel like there is less stress working at night, so this has got to be a big positive for me.

I believe it!! I always make the comment to my husband that night shift will be the death of me!!!
  • I work a 12 hour 2 week rotating shifts. 7 to 7. Your body never gets a chance to adjust, it's tough but it pays good!!

I have heard it to.. and I do believe that because of the lack of sunlight we get we tend to catch cold more easily... but other than that I don't really think that it will hurt to much in the long run.. as long as we try to stay healthy!
