What kind of supplements do you guys take/recommend for a swifter recovery? I already take protein powder, but am lookin for something that'll help speed up recovery between workouts ive heard mixed reviews on Glutamine ive thought about trying this ( http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/mrm/lglut.html )

Glutamine is marketed as anabolic/anticatabolic and immunostimulatory..But I think those claims are based in large part on early in vitro work and over time I have not found any of the above to be the case for a healthy individual. I used to take glutamine when I was younger based on the muscle mags and fellow lifters advice. But as I got older I began researching Gln and I came to the conclusion based on my own research that it was not as advertised and I stopped supplementing with it.
And with that supplements play only a part of the role when it comes to restoration..What helps improve recovery is first and foremost proper training program. If you have a poorly organized training program none of the other stuff will matter. If the training is good what I find beneficial for restoration are sound nutrition..Active rest/GPP..This is usually a relatively short WO between weight training session. I'll typically choose exercises that have a positive carry over to my weight training goals..Meaning these WO's help accelerate recuperative processes/increase functional capabilities and should not be a detriment to the special training. I include jump roping, jumping exercises, light strength exercises, going for a hike ect..Some incorporate planned naps, massages, hot baths ect..I also have a nearly daily stretching/flexibility routine I do which I feel is important. Also I have a planned day per week of passive rest.0 -

And how long have you been training? It is my understanding that somebody very advanced (lifting at very close to their genetic potential) would take a long time to recover in between workouts). But for most of us mere mortals, recovery should be relatively quick given adequate rest and nutrition.0 -
not really any issues doesnt seem to take me longer to recover than most (bout 2-3 days for full recovery depending on how heavy I went) but have heard some supplements can help with recovery0

Dear Rayman79's pecs: Relatively quick means about 48 hours. If it's your first workout after a long hiatus (or if you do some drastically different workout), then you're going to be sore for longer. But once you're in the routine you will recover relatively quickly.
I did a new PR in squats yesterday evening. I feel it a little bit today. Tomorrow I'll be ready to go again.0 -

This was actually my first dedicated weight session for a couple of years. Ive been doing a mix of cardio and resistance training for the past few months but nothing that punished my muscles quite that much... and I LOVE IT!
I'll be back in for another session tomorrow.

I've doubled my whey protein intake to help aid recover. I've also added a BCAA powder to my workout drinks to try to help recovery. I've been lifting for many years and have always battled soreness. One of the above (or both) have appeared to help0

BCAA is supposed to help, though a good protien powder will include them. Also you can take the isolate which absorbs a little quicker.
On a side note, I had a long layoff due to unrelated injury and was going to start over with just the bar. My spouse and a friend suggested that I start at the weight I stopped at and I decided to go for it. I could barely walk the next day. I stretched after, took a hot shower after and the next day and the morning of my next workout and it didn't help at all. Ibuprofin made it bearable, barely.
I wasn't sure I should do anything at all squat wise. I pushed through warmups and let myself get talked into adding 5lbs and after the 1st set of my working weight the soreness was gone!!! Completely gone. my only conclusion is that the exercise pushed the lactic acid out of my muscles in a way that massage and the foam roller just couldn't. I've also found that inadequate sleep will really really hamper recovery time.0
