Who do you think will win the GOP nomination?

Why oh why does Rick Perry continue to debate? He makes me think of this quote, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."0

Romney or Gingrich will likely get the nomination, but at this point, it's too early to tell. Gingrich has a bag of skeletons in his closet the size of Mount Everest. Romney, sofar, has just been sitting back and letting the candidate bubbles burst one by one.
The only one I would even consider voting for is Huntsman. He's rational, well spoken, not a tea party candidate, and has experience in govermnent. Living in Florida, I know what a "businessman" does when he gets elected (RICK SCOTT) and it's not good.
I said "consider" not definitvely vote for. I think the problem is that we don't have a choice in our polical system really. I would like to see intelligent rational discussion from opposing opinions, which is, apparently, way too much to ask. I feel like my only choice is Obama right now. While I generally support him, I do disagree with a lot of his stances and some of the decisions he's made. No one on the GOP side is even reasonable.0 -

Gingrich or Romney? Or far left field Paul?0 -
I'm guessing it will be Romney because people generally see him as the one who has a chance to beat Obama.0

Paul may lean left on the social issues, but he is actually the only GOP nom that is actually conservative fiscally and as far as the government's role goes. I was waiting for someone to mention Paul, considering how well he's doing in the polls.
He's the only one who matches my fiscally conservative and liberal social views. And actually is consistant with his votes.0 -
Perry is supporting Newt, so I'm guessing Romney will win it. Perry's problem is he talked too much!0

Oh I wasn't trying to imply any lefty views on him, he is just out there. I don't really see him as being socially liberal.0 -

Exactly the wrong reason to vote for someone. Because they can win and not because of their values. Not wonder we keep electing terrible presidents.0 -

ditto. And for that reason, I doubt he will get the nomination.
I'd rather see Gingrich as prez, because he has the credentials and experience, but I doubt he'd survive the election process. Therefore, Mitt is the most likely one who may actually win.
Sigh. What a frustrating election year to be a Republican.0 -

I don't know why they think that though. He doesn't seem to inspire people. They almost seem to begrudgingly support him.0 -

Well, I guess that's true. He as a person isn't socially liberal but is a favorite in the pro-legalization, pro-gay marriage crowd, unlike any other candidate.0 -

As a liberal, states voting on marriage doesn't get me. A president who believes that gay marriage is a federally protected right would get me. I personally don't think civil rights should be up for vote. Ron Paul from what I gather is for states rights but ultimately believes the government should get out of the marriage game altogether. The latter is somewhat admirable but completely unrealistic.
Pro-legalization, meh, I don't really see that as a left or right issue. Oddly enough, in my life, I know more right wingers who smoke than the other way around. But I agree he does have a lot of support from the pro legalization crowd, I don't think they really help his chances though. Much in the same way the many conspiracy theorists who support him don't really help him, and he for sure has the market cornered in that area. I don't think people take them very seriously when it comes to politics though.0 -
They'll put Romney up but the only one who really stands a chance is Paul. The Republicans crucified Kerry for flip flopping. He was straight as an arrow compared to Romney. My god, the man created health care in MA. IT worked. Obama modeled his plan on it and now suddenly Romney thinks it sucks. So does he think his own plan sucks? Then let's talk taxes. He wants to cut taxes for the wealthiest people but he claims he pays "around 15%" to which I call BS. I think he's rounding up from much closer to 10%. He's slimier than an eel. Even his magic underwear isn't going to get him elected.
I am looking forward to watching the fundies/evangelicals though. Do they vote for a Democratic black Christian or a Mormon? (I know Mormons are Christians but I'm referring to the people who don't think anyone but their own denomination are REAL Christians.)0 -

I'm kind of hard to offend. But this was a sh!tty comment. Not very tolerant or accepting of others, for a bloody effing liberal, huh?0 -

If a church wants to dictate heterosexual couples marry, that is fine. But as that is a religious reasoning, the state should not be able to make that same argument.0 -

WHO WANTS TO JUMP ON THE DERAIL TRAIN?? ALLLL ABOARD!! WHOO WHOO!
Is it a ****ty comment? Is it wrong to mock someone for their religious beliefs? "Yes" I'm sure many of you are saying. Really? Regardless of how ridiculous those beliefs or their fringe religion may be?
So it all should be respected? The Mormons following the teachings of a convicted con man who said Jesus visited Missouri and black people were part demon. Should we respect that? The Scientologists who want to convince you therapy is evil and you just need to get rid of the centuries dead alien spirits that inhabit your body. Respect for that too? How about a hard line muslim telling you that as a woman you need to shut your mouth in the presence of men? Hey it's their religious belief right?
If you don't want people to make fun of your beliefs as being silly you probably shouldn't believe silly things.0 -

I agree, Magic Underwear is even silly in the context of religion.0 -
Taking pot shots at someone for the things they hold special and sacred is sh!tty, imho. I don't find the beliefs Mormons hold to be reasonable. I'm not about to become a Mormon. But every Mormon I have ever met has been warm and accepting and loving towards me. And I know how seriousy they take the "magic underwear" referred to.
Just as it is offensive to a Muslim to say "diaper head", this comment was equally rooted in intolerance.
Dems pride themselves on how tolerant and accepting of others they are. That doesn't line up with the comment above. That's what I was commenting on.0 -

Well I certainly can't speak for all democrats, but I would say that we fight for the rights of individuals to pursue their freedoms/passions. That doesn't mean I have to like it. If someone wanted to make a law tomorrow that Mormon's were forbidden from wearing the magic underwear I would be outraged. But that doesn't mean I think it's anything other than a ridiculous notion.0 -

It may be a ridiculous notion. But saying so out loud is not very tolerant, nor polite. That's all.
It's OK, Bahet is protected by the First Amendment: We're allowed to be intolerant, and impolite, but just as you said, that doesn't mean I have to like it.0 -
Sorry for the derailment...............0

Resorting to tactics offensive like that have no place in a respectful conversation and debate. I give no credence to people who want to make jabs like that.0

I think that can be said of all the candidates and even a growing number of Democrats seem to feel that way about Obama these days. It's like everyone will stick to their preferred party even if they don't care for the candidate because the only alternative is to vote for the other side and not too many are willing to do that.0 -

making a joke does not = intolerance.
if you say you were joking, I have no reason to question it, except, I can read.
Please. Own it. I'd have more respect for that than the mewling "oh I was only joking" backpedal.0
