So I had my bypass in May of 2010. So far I've lost 40 pounds. About 8 months after my surgery I got pregnant. Not intentionally but it happened. I was supposed to wait till 24 months post op for more kids. So I spent the entire 9 months eating or drinking constantly as I was worried about the baby getting enough food. I've had the baby and she was almost 8 pounds. Its been 3 months and I've not lost any weight other than the weight I put on during the pregnancy which was about 10 or so pounds. I'm feeling a bit upset about it. I don't over eat or anything like I did before the surgery so I just don't understand what the hold up is. I know I need to exercise more. It's like I'm at a maintenance point. Plus my surgeon left town for a promotion a few months after my surgery. Gotta love that. So there went my entire team of professionals and I've been out in the cold ever since trying to figure this thing out on my own. The nearest replacement dr is in Raleigh NC. I'm just not driving that far. Most of the time I'm pretty happy with my decision to do this. My ability to eat crap like everyone else is gone. Just get tired of protein. Really at the end of the day folks you're on the Atkins diet when you have a bypass. They push the proteins, veggies and fresh fruits along with dairy. So if you never did anything to screw up your metabolism like I did for ten years you should just go on the atkins and start exercising. I drink protein shakes and eat lots of deli meats and cheese along with salmon burgers, tuna burgers etc. Anyhow I just thought I would share and throw that out there. Any questions look me up. Thanks for reading.

Hi! Im not too far from you, Im in Fayetteville. My doctor is Dr Davidson at Village Surgical. He is seriously awesome! His entire team is supportive and just plain nice. They are located on Quiet Cove which is across from Cape Fear Valley.

And youre not the only one who got pregnant shortly after surgery... I did the same! I was 6 months post up when I got preggers with my little one... wouldnt change a thing though =)
  • A baby is a nice trade-off. Congratulations! The bypass should still be working and you can go with some carbs in your diet. I would go easy on the deli meats (often higher calorie and high sodium) and the cheeses. Log your calories on MFP and be honest. No one judges here, I've found. Good luck. You can do this! You want to be as healthy as you can to chase around your little munchkin!
