I really like men's health and women's health. I know they are more "dumbed down" for the common person but the articles are interesting, relevant, and a nice read.
Break a plateau? Eat more AND workout more --increased "energy flux" they call it.
There are just loads of tips/tricks and stuff online just like that. Sometimes they use "conventional wisdom" bull s**t and that irritates me but overall I really like reading it when I'm bored.0 -
I used to occasionally read Men's fitness. Far less wanky than men's health, with only half the amount of "get ripped in 5 days BS, lol.
In truth, i'll only ever read it now if:
1: i can get it for free or
2: its got some awesome recipes i anna try out.

I don't bother reading magazines since the majority of magazine articles are full of non-sense or they are merely trying to sell you a product. I only read peer reviewed journals now when it comes to health and fitness issues.0

BodyFit Magazine - not sure if it UK only though. Good all round read, interesting workouts. Articles and interviews with professional athletes and their regimes. New workout clothes on the market, what's on offer, nutritional advice, non-fit people trying different fitness classes. Great to read in the bath after a workout - or for keeping you motivated. It's not high brow - but aimed at the average woman who wants to stay in shape and eat well to support their training.
My favourite article was on different yoga positions - which I cut out and is on my 'target' list but there are so many inspirational pictures that I found myself cutting these out too just to look at when feeling a bit under par.
I also get a lot of information via twitter and links to on-line articles - alot of which are biased to the American market and from this side of the pond appear laughable. You have to have your head screwed on to filter out the crap and I can honestly say that my 'crapometer' works just fine!! Got to say, it gets used a lot on MFP sadly!0 -
I know this is not popular, but I always get mens health and mens fittness delivered to my house, is that sad? I just find them a good read when im bored or there's not much on tv. I would never pay shop price for them, subscribtion via the net they work out dirt cheap. muscle and fittness is to hardcore for me. these are the only 3 mags in England really I can think of.0

I'm a female and still read men's health. it's interesting! I don't pay for them, if i buy a mag it's because it's 10 bucks or less per subscription0 -
I read the AfAA magazine and do the continuing ED. But I'm interested in all kinds of topics for myself or my participants of group ex. E.g. I sometimes look at Mens' muscle magazine, books re strength anatomy and group ex utilizing fitball or bosu, etc.. I read the Lyle McDonal UD 2 (very interesting). Right now I read a book about adrenal fatigue and how to deal with stress better and how to feel more energized.0

I've been reading Lyle's books as well.0

I think it's fair to say then, that when not working out and keeping fit, we are reading about working out and keeping fit!0

I was recently given a copy of "Oxygen" magazine and LOVE it! I generally read Women's Health but get p*ssed off sometimes with the amount of advertising and wanky info they publish.
I'm also reading Jillian Michaels "Master Yor Metabolism" which Im finding so interesting and would recommend.0 -
I'm definitely keeping my eyes peeled for a good one targeted to women (in the states). I personally don't care to read a magazine that teaches me how to "spot reduce" (uhhhhhh... seriously? yes I've seen 'em!) or that tells me to pick up a 3lbs weight 29,293 times. (I'm not hating if that's your style or your starting point. Just not my interest). I ALSO don't want to look at steroid-ridden women Sorry I'm so whiney!0

Any journals you recommend? Now that I'm back in grad school I have access to a lot of peer reviewed journals! I just don't know where to start... since I don't have a background in exercise science or anything, I also am nervous I'll just feel like it's all over my head. Recommendations welcome!0 -
I love Oxygen! They have a wide range of fit ladies with different body types, everything from lean, pregnant, fit, bulky, etc and all their recipes are clean! ANd since we keep as clean as we can have time/money/energy to in our house that is a huge help.0
