I have the night sweats, the depression and anxiety have been on and off for years, but shorter periods? Not me, in fact, mine are longer and heavier.. GYN said this is also a symptom of peri-menopause. I keep telling my body that I'll be damned if I have to have night sweats and a longer period, pick one! LOL0 -
Wow, there's a thought! If we could pick the symptoms we'd prefer over others, which would we choose? I don't know--
My current top three are pretty hideous to put up with:
Change in body odor :grumble:
Hot flashes :blushing:
Anxiety/ mood swings :frown:
But I don't see among the others any that I rather have....:noway:0 -
Night sweats
Mood swings (my family thinks Im nuts)
"duh" moments0 -

peri-menopause here:
1). No periods at all for months, and then spotting.
2). Insomnia
3). A "spacey" feeling. Lack of ability to concentrate.0 -
I had the night sweats, irratability and spotting. The my doctor prescribed thyroid medication and the spotting and irratability went away. I added soy milk, tofu and edumama to my diet and the night sweats went away as well. Insomnia is now taking up the slack, but exercise seems to help. May be if I blame my inablity to focus on menopause, I can get out of trouble with my hubby. What do y'all think?0

Weight Gain (including weight moving from thighs/hips to upper stomach)
Mood Swings (seeing red)

depression / anxiety / moody
overheating easily (worse at night, but happens in daytime too)
forgetfulness / inability to concentrate0 -

And it seems my appetite has increased a lot. I never used to eat this much!0 -
Mine were
hot flushes
weight gain
sudden bursts of temper
I still have the hot flushes
the weight gain I can remove if I am strict with eating and exercise
the sudden bursts of temper - DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT THOSE!!!!!!

Hot Flashes
Cold Flashes (chilled to the bone for hours!)
Decreased ability to concentrate and stay focus (probably because my thought kept getting interupted by hot/cold flashes)0 -
Hot Flashes
Insomnia
Weight Gain

1. Insomnia
2. Depression
3. Insomnia & depression! :ohwell:0 -
Weight gain due to feeling hungry all the time.
Hot flashes
Tired all the time.0 -
This time in our lives is so exciting, isn't it? I had no symptoms at all. June 2011 had totally hysterectomy and sent into warp speed menopause -
1. depression
2. weight gain
3. major hot flashes
4. insomnia
I went on hrt winter after. Helped big time. No more depression except when RA is bad, lost 60 pounds (hoping for 15 more). Still have hot flashes but maybe not as many and sleep sucks. Losing weight really did help my state of mind. Hopefully this wont go on forever. Winnie0 -
I also have had:
1. Hot flashes so bad that I thought I'd need a fireextinguisher to put myself out!
2. Insomnia - what is it about 2 am??
3. weight gain
4. and mood swings that made me feel like an out of control teenager!
thank goodness for HRT and excercise, now I feel like a human being again!0 -
1. Night Sweats / Hot flashes
2. Insomina
3. Weight Gain, and this especailly in the waist area, results a huge muffin top!
4. Now suffer from CRS (Cannot remember *kitten*)0 -
Well I did not know that change in body odor was due to menopause!! I am 40 years old, been in peri-menopause for 3 years. Recently I noticed that my deodorant 'stopped working' or so I thought. I have switched brands and nothing helps.
Good to know!0 -
I have:
night sweats
weight gain
light but frequent period ( sometimes every 10-12 days. Yippee)
fatigue
memory loss
change in body odor
inability to focus
short temper
You name it, I have it!0 -
Night sweats (they seem to be stopped after a year) fortunately they were'nt severe.
Insomnia (getting better with less caffeine and meditation). That 2am wake up really stank.
I thought the memory thing was just me being stupid, good to know I'm not alone in this one!0 -
Hot flashes including the ones at night which wake me up (I used to sleep through anything)
Weight gain/fat gut (when I was at the dr. I hadn't actually gone up on the scales but none of my pants would do up)
I can't remember the third. Oh wait- memory loss!
Actually the hot flashes and mood swings have been helped by soy protein (hot flashes) and Omega oil(mood swings) but weight is driving me crazy!0 -
The awkward part for me is that the menopausal symptoms also seem to mirror hypothyroidism. Back in '10 I went to the doc having had enough - talked to her about these perimenopausal symptoms and found out I had hypothyroidism instead.... or is that, in addition to....
Anyway -
Achy joints (symptom of both)
Memory loss is the part that drives me absolutely nuts (symptom of both)
Hot flashes (I keep my handy dandy hand fan close by!)
I would add the weight in there but I think it was more the hypothyroidism that made me go out of whack there. Meds adjusted and it's creeping back down.
I will admit I did try the bioidentical HRT's and found it made me feel WONDERFUL! However, as lame as this makes me sound, these brought back my period to either a "regular" status, and on the "last straw" stage, started sooner than it should have. At that point I was like oh heck no. Let me handle the hot flashes and achy joints. I was enjoying the fact I was down to like 2-3 light periods a year - I've earned the right to skip months! LOL!0
