Finally ... Kinected!

OMFG the engineering behind the Kinect is AMAZING. I really thought it would be cheesy like the Wii (apologies to anyone who loves their Wii ...), but the sensitivity of the motion sensor behind the Kinect blows me away.

We got the $99.99 bundle at Best Buy that comes with 3 games (2 of them are downloaded over Xbox Live), and then -- of course -- had to pick up Just Dance 3. All I gotta say is I got the best hour of indoor cardio today, ever (I get bored on treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes, lol).

We're looking for suggestions into other great Kinect games -- anyone have recommendations? I realize the Kinect library may not be as extensive as Wii, but we're hoping that will change soon. :drinker:

Dance Central! It's my favourite Kinect game by far!
I also play Zumba Fitness on my Kinect too. :) Both are great workouts.

Dance Central is really good for exercise. You can have it show you an estimation of burned calories while you play too which is useful when it comes to logging it on here.

Does that mean you have Fruit Ninja?!?!? Zomg that game kills me.. Only kinect game where after a round I have to sit down and take a breather.. It doesn't help that It makes me feel like a ninja and I have to over exaggerate..

LOL yes, it came with Fruit Ninja! We haven't tried it yet ...

I thought about getting Dance Central, but it was a bit more expensive ... and they were out of stock on DC2. Hoping that DC will go on sale relatively soon now that 2 is out, haha. Nice to know that it has an estimated calorie burn though -- I had no idea how to log my Kinect activity yesterday, then decided it didn't really matter and I'd roll it into my normal, everyday activity.

Bf wants to get UFC as well, but we'll definitely have to take a look at Sports 2 ... thanks!
  • I have really been on the fence about an Xbox 360/.... Look at the Kinect... But it looks sooooo cheesy...

Honestly though, the more people that talk about it, the more it sounds pretty cool...

Truth now... Have they finally figured out the motion sensing stuff? If so, it sound like an awesome toy.

(I still remember the Power Glove from the old school NES.....So I'm a bit skeptical.. lol)

YES, they have figured it out! I totally hear ya on the cheese issue, but I promise it is NOT cheesy.

The sensor will actually move when it calibrates to find you in the room and figure out the optimal setting. (When that happened the first time, my bf and I looked at each other and said, "Johnny 5!" at the same time, haha.)

We have 4 cats -- while my bf was setting it up, of COURSE a couple of them had to come over and see what all the fuss was about in the living room. The sensor actually picked up the cats' forms and showed them on the screen, although it was smart enough to not "register" the cat as a player  -- it was amazing!

We wound up buying at Best Buy because the $99 bundle was about as good of a deal as we've seen. We figured we'd get an extra game and test that one, and if we didn't like the Kinect, we could take it back to Best Buy for a full refund if we didn't open the default games (and eBay the one we did buy extra and open). But pretty much within 10 minutes of setting up "Just Dance 3", my bf said "We're keeping it", opened the default physical game and started downloading the 2 extras.

The kinect technology is great, some of the games (the early games) did NOT make the best use of it or didn't know how to implement it well and the recognition for those is crap.

of the early wave of games the best 2 were Kinect Sports and Dance Central -- both of which are Microsoft games. The new wave coming out now should be vastly improved as the other publishers figure out how to program it correctly.

Dance Central 2 is actually quite improved over DC 1 (and DC 1 was great) - they made the dance moves a bit subtler and it does a good job picking them up. You should be able to find DC 1 for 20-30 bucks max. Wait for xmas sales I guess.

That's funny. My 80lbs. golden retriever thinks that every time we stand in front of the kinect, waving our arms around, it's time for a hug. Totally messes up the score! Not surprising though, she takes up a lot of volume!

I use my Kinect a tonne for Netflix.. Forza 4 tried to implement head tracking with kinect into the game, which isn't the greatest, since you are mostly staring at one screen.. but the idea is good.. I think more games should add kinect features.

And my daughter always waves at the kinect when the xbox starts up.. She always thinks we are playing something on kinect.. so annoying.. but soooo damn cute..

I was also sceptical until I tried it. It really is very good at tracking you.
