OK - I did my first one today!

Disclaimer - I ran a half marathon in July, but haven't done much running since then, so I thought I'd start back at square run and work on having a better pace than my usual "survival shuffle".

I'm doing mine on the treadmill so that it's not weather dependent and it's easy to track progress.

My walk pace was 6.5km/hr and my run pace was 9.5km/hr.

Will be interested to see if I can keep that pace up as I progress!

Im starting again this week, got to week 4 day 2 (just before first 20min run) a few weeks ago but got tonsilitis and was laid up for awhile. So am motivated to begin again and will start from scratch as i need to work on my running form anyway.

Did first session yesterday - starting on week 3. So far knees are doing ok - will go to Shoe Clinic next week and sort some new shoes as my Asics that I bought in September have killed my knees. Been using my 13 year old daughters old warehouse ones lol.

I did this a couple of years ago and it's awesome - good luck to you all!! :-)

I can definitely recommend getting the pod casts - I started out just using a stopwatch timer and listening to my iPod, but when I discovered the pod casts, it made a huge difference and I could put more focus in to what I was doing, rather than watching the clock! :-)

Did my second workout run today - did the right amount of time for a change!

It's great starting out with the easier level, because I really feel like I'm getting the chance to work on pace and form, instead of just enduring it!

Is there anything you can do to stop the sore knees? Don't leave me alone in this!!

I wish! Just been to physio had it strapped. He is puzzled why it's become sore days after running, and not WHILE running. Says he thinks it's the medial collateral ligament. I just want it fixed boohoo!

That totally sucks - I feel really sorry for you!

I just went for my third run of week one and I'm amped for week 2, now - I'm trying a whole new style of running, actually, because I'm only doing short bursts at at time. I'm trying the front footfall first, as opposed to heel-toe.

I wonder if the physio could watch you run for a minute and see if there's anything that is out of place and could be causing you problems? I don't even know if that's something they do - just an idea!

Yep - he did that two weeks ago and really saw nothing of concern. Since then I did the four runs which gave me no pain during or after, but then 3 days after the last one my knees have become increasingly sore. Really weird, but I am determined to get back into it as soon as I get clearance AGAIN!

    Hi Guys,

I'm just starting this too. I did my first run on Sunday. I'm also doing it barefoot, so I might end up taking a bit longer as it is quite intensive on the calf muscles. Maybe it is just a starting out issue, but my calves are still sore today and the rest of me felt fine after the run.

I have tried this programme twice before and both times crashed out, so this is take three!! The first time I think it was from expensive but wrong for me shoes, and the second time I possibly pushed too far too fast.

I have just started it again from week one day one, and this time will stick to the programme and not be impatient. While I think my fitness could move me ahead faster, I am mindful of both previous attempts ending in buggered knees so need to stick to the pace as set.

Also, this time I am doing it barefoot. Tonight was the first time I have run barefoot (as an adult!) and I have to say it felt really great!
  • Right so i am all ready to head out the door on day one of this and the heavens open for goodness sake... grrrrr and it is getting heavier and heavier we as in me and my daughter are waiting for the rain to go...

Hope you get a clear spell soon. It is temporarily fine here so I am going to try to squeeze in week 2 day 1 before the skies open again. Wont be for a while though have some jobs to do first.

Just did week 2 day 1. Started raining heavily for the last six minutes but there's something awesome about running barefoot in the rain! Now at home with frozen peas on my knee just in case it decides to start playing up!

Just did W1D2 yesterday. It's going good so far - I feel great after finishing the workout. It's been good weather though since I started. Don't know how I'll go if there's torrential rain - i'd probably wait till the weather got better.

I just finished Week 4, but I'm repeating it as I wasn't happy with my performance and the purpose of this for me is to improve my pace and form. Not to worry - I'll get there!

I am doing a week 2.5 lol which is 2 mins running/2 mins walking - thought the jump from week 2 to 3 was too much for me with also trying to adapt to barefoot running.

The Vibrams? Hell no. People rave about them but I just can't stand the look of them lol. I'm doing total barefoot.

Completed week one - Not hard but I have been daily walking/cycling for 90days before starting this. I think I might find the 2nd week harder....doing this on a treadmill, not outside so its a little different from everyone else.

I'm doing treadmill, too. One of my knees has gone, though, so I'm on hold until I can get to a physio and get some advice next week. Quite annoyed, as I was doing well - was half-way through Week 4. Will start Week 4 again once I've got my knee sorted.

Just did W2D2 today - I'm happy with my progress so far. I started from being really unfit - so the fact that I can run for 90 seconds without stopping is huge for me!

I'm walking/running outside - which I think would be a lot more enjoyable - I've never run on a treadmill before as I've never been to a gym. What are they like? Luckily the weather has cooperated since I started as well.

I pulled a muscle near my tailbone today though - I'm hoping it's better in the morning.

I just did what I had planned to be week 3 day 1. Ended up doing the following:

    run 2mins, walk 2 mins
run 3 mins, walk 2 mins
    run 3 mins, walk 2mins
run 4 mins, walk 1 min
    run 1 min

was rapt that I had barely a twinge while running, so now think I can finally move ahead and build the fitness up that my joints seem to be coperating.

Yay - finished Week 2. Not difficult so far but might be from now on. Can't believe that I could jog 5k in seven more weeks tho!

Randomly decided to run 20 minutes last night and managed it pain free! So I am now going to jump to week 6 seeing week 5 day 3 is a 20 minute run.
