So, I started using a HRM for my workouts because I think MFP is a little too kind on the amount of calories it says we burn for an activity. I thought my HRM was being too stingey (sp?) so I found a website to calculate calories burned per workout based on heart rate and your weight. My HRM is pretty darn close so I guess I'll trust it from now on and workout a little harder. lol

Yes I was very disappointed when I got my HRM and found I wasn't burning nearly (not even in the ballpark) as many calories as I thought I was.

I agree with the optimistic calories used up by exercise.

I love using my HRM. It's an incentive to keep walking, rack up the calories. I trust it over mfp, because it always knows exactly how hard I am working.

Would you all mind sharing what type HRM you have and what you like about it? I was going to ask my husband for one for Christmas.. but, there was SOO much information out there.. I gave up. They are not cheap.. so, I didn't want to him to spend money on one until I really knew what I wanted.

Mine is a Polar. They have lots of models in many price ranges. I like the support they give when something goes wrong. My daughter is an elite athlete. She and her friends all use Polar.

I used to have a Polar and loved it. The one I have now is a Sportsline...The display is hard to read but ti was in my budget so it will do for a while. If you can afford it, get one that shows HR, percentage of Max and Calories burned with a good clear display.
