I can't decide if I'm going to make any specific resolutions this year. Are any of you planning on mamking resolutions for 2012? Do you usually keep them?

I started running recently, so I'm thinking of signing up for a few runs over the course of the year to keep me honest with my training. I guess that's a resolution (sort of!). :)

I've never made a resolution, even losing my weight this year, i only wanted to try to keep it up. If I was to say anything for 2012, it would be to keep eating and tracking my food and most importantly maintain.

I'm not really a resolution person myself, if I set my mind to something I do it though. How is the running coming prettypooks? Are you doing couch25k? Do you run outside? I'm such a shiver *kitten* & wouldn't be able to do the running outside right now.

The running is going great, actually! I started doing C25K, but I quickly realized that the kickboxing I have been doing has increased my cardiovascular ability to the point where I can run for 40 mins without stopping. I use the term "run" loosely... I can run a 5K distance in 37 minutes right now. It's great for a beginner, but I'm competitive and want to do better! So, I started doing a 5K improver program, which is really quite fun. I'm hoping that the two weeks I have left to train before my race are enough to allow me to shave a minute or two off that time.

As for running outside, it's only the first few minutes that are a problem, if you're dressed properly. I always end up taking off clothes. I read that you should dress for weather that's 10 degrees warmer than it actually is, because by the time you build up a sweat, the outside temperature becomes comfortable. I invested in some good winter running gear (wicking base layer, jacket with a windbreaking shell, running gloves, etc.). The right gear makes running in cold weather very bearable. I prefer it to exercising in the heat!!

I'm sure you could do it. :)

    Thanks for the info.
  • I'm not making resolutions as such, but instead setting goals for myself.

No resolution other than not to quit, and to follow through with what I've begun.

I'm actually glad I started this at the beginning of November, because there's no doubt in my mind it was an epiphany, and not some motion I'm going through for the sake of a calendar tradition.

The plan is this: No health club membership. Other than visits to friends' gyms I will work at home. I don't want to spend entirely too much money, feel inferior to The Beautiful People™ who are in maintenance mode (or are just there to strut), wait around for the equipment I want to use, clean the aforementioned smelly equipment, or change and shower with strangers.

I will learn how to use the equipment I have and buy what I need in lieu of a monthly membership fee.

My wife collected a bunch of exercise equipment for me I never used until 2 months ago -- a manual treadmill, a Weider home gym, an exercise bike, a weight bench, dumbells and freeweights. I've started doing the basics.

My brother in law left his boombox with a busted CD changer. I plug in my laptop to the AUX input and rock out for 40-60 minutes 6 days a week.

I have enough T-shirt and sweatpants outfits on my rack that I could -- in theory -- only do laundry once a week. In practice, that would be horribly stinky.

I picked up a discount subscription to Men's Health because I love getting mail and I want something to reorient me to the goal each month.

I ordered a book with schedules and planned workouts you can do at home with no equipment / modest equipment.

What I'm doing is already working. I'm just going to learn how to do it better.
  • I've never really made a true resolution, and kept to it. Sure in the past I'm sure I said "yeah, I'll lose weight" and fadded off in mid January, lol. My weight loss is more than an anual resolution, this has been going on for far too long to make it into something like that.

Something that I would like to do is learn how to cook healthier meals for my family. Currently, I am on a meal plan and I eat differently than my family, so I end up making two seperate meals at every meal. I am slowly approaching a time where I will be re-introducing a lot more foods into my plan and will need to know how to incorporate all kinds of ingredients into meals.

I hope to buy a few books to help me, and check out of a few websites, and print out some recipes. I always say oh I'll look online, and I find them but if I don't have them in my hand and plan for it - it won't happen. I don't cook bad food mind you, but I would like to start cooking as healthy as I can. :)
