Just got back into low carb eating but I'm not sure how to boost my protein intake. I will not use protein powders, bars etc as I am trying not to eat processed food. Any ideas? I'd rather be healthy than skinny!

So you are a vegetarian but you want to do low carb? That's going to be kind of tough...I struggle to meet my protein requirement set by MFP but I'm also watching my calories. Things that immediately came to mind would be eggs (obviously), parmesan cheese (highest protein cheese), edamame, roasted pumpkin/squash seeds, peanuts...
  • Would you ever consider including a little fish and/or eggs in your diet?? I'm not sure how strict your diet is but I am a pescatarian so I do eat fish and also eat eggs. As a low carber I dont think I would ever get close to the amt of protein I need if I didn't eat fish and eggs. My egg white omelet in the morning gives me tons of protein and keeps me full til lunch - dont know what i'd do without it! I tried the protein powders but like you I didn't like putting weird processed stuff in my body. If fish/eggs are not an option for you I would maybe reconsider the protein powder and def take krisrpaz's advice with the nuts/beans. Protein is so important!

Can you eat eggs? Are you willing to consider free range meat sources? If not, it wil be difficult - as I've tried it. Atkins.com has useful info fr low carb diets for vegetarians. Good luck!

I have been vegan, and I have done low carb, and it can be tough.

You will be eating a LOT of soy. I personally try to eat soy in extreme moderation since I have estrogen issues, and it is an estrogen analog.

you may want to prioritize. Vegetarianism, "natural" foods, high protein. there is nothing morally wrong with protein powder. honest.

I absolutely understand your desire to stay natural. However, I don't know the reason why you want to go low carb. If it is a diabetes related thing, keep in mind that you have probably been poisoned by years of sugar. Your pancreas has been broken. You can no longer go back to regular eating. some damage is irreversible.

I hope you find what you're looking for.
