I eat raw eggs, well to be honest only raw yolks. I don't really like the texture/consistency of egg whites so I won't eat those raw. I love putting raw egg yolks into smoothies, they give it a wonderful creamy texture.0

Not knowingly. With million-egg recalls for salmonella (there was one just a few months ago), contamination due to poor business practices are a legitimate concern.0

I make my own mayo so I use raw egg yolk all the time. I agree with scarletleavy, not a fan of raw egg white.0

Also just to point out I don't eat factory farmed eggs. I get mine fresh, local and organic from a farmer.0

2 a morning in my breakfast mocha. Get them fresh, wash the shells, enjoy.
p.s. pasteurized if you are really worried0 -
Back in the states i had my own chickens but over here i get them local farmers. I do know a few people who pasteurized then will eat them ''uncooked''0

I eat raw egg yolks when I make mayo, caesar salad, etc. These are also farm fresh eggs.
One of the reasons I have heard to not eat raw egg whites, regardless of source, is that the white contains the protein avidin which binds to biotin (in the yolk). Cooking the white is supposed to denature the avidin while keeping biotin intact.0 -
the salmonella apparently "lives" in the white, but there is no food source for it there. However as the egg ages, the barrier between the yolk and the white thins, allowing a movement toward the food source.
here is some good info...http://www.incredibleegg.org/egg-facts/egg-safety/eggs-and-food-safety
I realize they are trying to sell eggs, so you can take that into consideration.
Or a quote from Alton Brown's caesar salad show..."Now, eggs can, in at least the last few years, carry salmonella and IF you happen to get the, say, 1 in 20,000 eggs that are infected and IF you happen to store it badly, say, holding it at the wrong temperature for too long or cooking it too early and leaving it around the house for a couple of days, you could, maybe, get sick. But that's an awful lot of 'ifs'"0 -
Love that Alton Brown quote!
We buy organic, free-range eggs from Trader Joe's. We eat them raw in smoothies and have been doing so for years. I give the smoothies to my 5-year-old, my 3-year-old, and my 16-month-old grand-daughter. These little one's are unvaccinated and were breast-fed for an extended period (by American standards). I also put probiotics and digestive enzymes in the smoothies.
I think if your immune system is heatlhy, and you're not eating contaminated eggs raw by the dozen, you'll be okay.
I lived in England for 3 years. At that time, the eggs in the grocery store were not in coolers. I bought duck eggs, which were larger than chicken eggs. I ate 3 over-easy and got sicker than a dog! But, as far as I know, I've never gotten sick from raw chicken eggs - even before I started buying organic and free-range.0 -
I do not eat raw eggs, but then I have recently discovered I have a mild intolerance to eggs and no longer eat the number of eggs I use to - up to three or four a day.
I would never buy eggs that were not kept in the store fridges..I can't believe that in Australia, especially in the hotter states or in the summer for the cooler states, that some stores do not keep eggs in the fridges but sell them from the standard shelving.0
