I was curious as to anybody losing hair while on Medifast? I don't think I've experienced much more than usual, but my aunt has been on medifast and has lost 40 lbs and is losing a large amount of hair. Any tips, advice, etc on this would be great... I love my hair lol. I've been happy with the quick results thus far but wanted to know if anybody else knows of long term side effects. Thanks :)

When I did Atkins I lost hair towards the middle of big weight loss. A lot of people report loss when on high protein diet. Make sure to take supplements. I also switched to Wen all natural products and that helped as well. But I do take supplements (a lot) my hair finally stopped falling out. It is just a body change.
  • I have heard of this happening, I was told to take Biotin, but I also take CLA and L-Carnitate and flaxseed. But to help with the hairloss I heard Biotin is key. Best of luck to you!
  • Thanks guys! I will look into biotin, just to play it safe!

I lost 68 lbs on Weight Watchers and didn't have any type of abnormal hair loss. I've lost about 50 on Medifast, and even after I got my hair cut shorter I was still losing the same amount of hair as when it was long. It was freaking me out! Someone suggested taking biotin, so I started last weekend, and I think it's finally starting to slow down. My hairdresser was kind enough to point out that I was not only thinning below my head, but above it, too.

I'm a MFP buddy of RachMox above and suggested the hair/skin/nails vitamin with Biotin. I am taking that and have no issues with hair loss. Any major amount of weight loss or body change can impact your hair... not just a high protein diet. I cut calories after I had my son and ate all food groups, regular amounts of carbs, and had lost a bunch of hair at once from all the changes to my body.

So I'd try biotin/hair skin & nails for sure. Good luck!

When I hit around 60lbs down, my hair started to fall out like mad and got very thin. I did try biotin for a couple months but really didn't see an improvement. I have been using Nioxin shampoo and that did seem to help abit. I've just noticed in the past month that my hair seems to be getting fuller, not that I ever had alot to begin with lol. I don't know if this has corresponded to my increasing my protein/fat or just a coincidence.

    Yes she did!
  • My hair has been thinning the last few years for other reasons. I started MF 4 months ago and don't think it has impacted it one way or the other. I also just started Biotin last week and I'm hopeful
