After my first longish run today (7 miles) I came across the old enemy blisters! Has anyone got any good advice about how to deal with them - to pop or not to pop etc. Or is it just a case of man up and carry on?

    a lot of times when I get blisters it's because my shoes are worn out. Hows your shoes? may be time for a new pair. as for running after the blisters, I have had a lot of success with moleskin. You can get it at any pharmacy or supermarket and it works wonders with running with blisters. maybe check that out. sorry man. blisters suck.

    Waiting for my new shoes to arrive but here was a mess up over the address. I'll just carry on regardless. No pain no gain.

    I got a blood blister on the inside of my arch (as GoLeanWendy posted) on Saturday (7th) doing a 12-mile long run and heard not to mess with it. Thankfully that was great advice and it wasn't hurting at all on Sunday, and by Monday another layer of harder skin had formed OVER it, leaving it perfectly smooth, and the used-to-be-blister a spot of dark brown skin.

    Also agree with Hansada, moleskin is great!

    They seem to have settled down slightly although still 'wobbly' will run a three miler tonight and the have eight tomorrow so we'll see how it goes!

    Lubricate your feet before you put your socks on, you can use specialist running lubes like Bodyglide but I use plain old Vaseline.

    It also helps lubricate your nipples if you suffer from runners nipple after long runs like i do!

    Never pop a regular blister - let the skin get dry/hard as keeping it wet will just aggravate it. Sounds gross and your feet won't be pretty but hey, it's a marathon not a tea party :)

    Blood blisters - I've only had two and I popped both. Never had an issue with this. Seems a bit disgusting having dried up blood under your skin, but that might just be me!

    Bodyglide is great stuff (smells like sheep though - you can get this stuff called Chamois cream which is apparently nicer/better - although I haven't tried it). Don't forget to do the bit under your arms where your t-shirt arms rub - that CANES and takes about a week of TLC to heal!

    Best anti-blister socks I've come across are Thorlos - they are heavy duty and I haven't blistered once. 1000 Miles and Twin socks are slightly less good but still a thousand times better than your average cotton socks.

    By far and away good shoes are IMPERATIVE as they will affect your posture / your heelstrike etc so much more than just your feet, and can really help make you run efficiently and comfortably. Shoes which make you run more efficiently will ultimately save you energy, and at mile 22 you will be grateful for anything remaining - trust me!!
