Inflammation?

Does anyone else have problems with water retention/inflammation? I woke up the other night and my ring finger was killing me. It was swollen so bad I couldn't get my wedding ring off and the ring was cutting off the circulation. Normally the ring slides right off. Still trying to figure this thing out....so frustrated.

My rings seem to go from falling off to so tight I can't stand them over the course of a day. If I am really good about taking my natural thyroid and cortisol supplements it helps, but otherwise I will change 7 to 10lbs over the course of a day. I tried taking some potassium and it does help.0

Yes, I have that problem too. I thought if I stayed hydrated and consistently drank water it would get better. I don't salt my food at the table, I do cook with sea salt with iodine but in moderation - so I don't think it's that.
I have added fresh grated ginger to some of my recipes as I heard it was a natural anti-inflammatory but I have not noticed a difference. Not sure how much it takes or how often.0 -
I have been up and down for a while...but saturday was a first. Never had it so bad that my finger was going numb from the ring. Have been watching my sodium but that day I didn't.0

Terrible inflammation here. I have just been able to put my wedding ring back on after a little over a year of having it off because my hands swelled so badly and I have ankles now also. My doctor told me from the beginning of my diagnosis that I would start feeling better six months from the time my levels got balanced. She ended up being correct.0

Wow - that must have been painful!! I am grateful I don't have that -- at least externally. My doc suspects that I have internal inflammation from food sensitivities, but I don't have any swelling.0

I'm REALLY sensitive to salt/ sodium. Just a few salted potato chips can make my tongue feel burned. And, a 20 oz diet coke gives me an extra pound of water weight for the next day. I used to have issues with my rings until I lost about 20 lbs - hasn't been a problem with swelling since, but sometimes they're a lot looser than others.0

See...the thing is my ring is normally almost falling off my finger. It hasn't happened since, or at least I haven't woken up with it happening.0

A little over a year ago, I had problems with swelling in my feet to the point where I couldn't wear most of my shoes. The doctors couldn't figure it out. It didn't hurt, but it certainly wasn't comfortable.
I don't know if it was sodium or not, because I don't track my food most of the time. I read nutrition labels, but I have only logged for about 6 weeks last summer and that was it.
I did get my rings resized because I couldn't wear them anymore. I couldn't tell if that was from the weight gain or from the water retention, but I do find that they fluctuate a lot from day to day.
I'm glad it's not just me. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it were a thyroid thing. My aunt gets the swelling and thyroid issues too. I am pretty sure my levels were adjusted around that time.... Hmmmm....0 -
Prior to me getting really sick with what ultimately ended up being hypothyroidism, my rings used to be really loose on my fingers. If it hadn't been for my knuckle size I would have been afraid of them falling off. Now the rings are snug but I am sure when all the weight is off, they will twirl around my fingers again. Kind of miss that.0

I didn't realize just how much water and inflammation I had until I had 1/2 of my thyroid out! What a difference. Toxic was the correct word for my thyroid. Less water, less hunger.....much better!0
