Is anybody else having trouble losing weight due to your hormones, I have not been able to lose weight for a year. Have tried a low fat diet, no carb diet, stay under my calorie goal and go to the gym 4 days a week and nothing seems to work. Am pre-menopause so my friend s think my hormones is keeping me from losing weight.

Yep! Can't lose weight for the life of me. I've been able to lose 5 since November. I ramped up my running and have really been watching the cals I eat...but have been fluctuating between the same 10lbs for a year.
  • I am 50 and I am having a terrible time! I have been on a 1200 calorie diet for the last week and have not lost a pound! I know I am eating way less than I was before, I didnt realize how much til I started tracking it. I would have thought that I would have lost at least some water weight by now, this is very discouraging.
  • Aries03 what kind of HRT are you on, I go to see a hormone therapist on the 30th hoping she will be able to help me.

I'm definately in this boat. I did increase my cals to 1400/day and I feel better. But I know my Hashimoto's and adrenal dysfunction.. more like adrenal death.,.. is keeping my weight up and my energy and mood down.. It's tough for sure. Unfortuanately I left all my vitamins at home, and I'm 2 hours away while I care for my mom, that's probably something I should get going, it's been so super tough being here, I need to exercise and get back on logging my eats. I've read up on plenty of herbs and vitamins I'd like to work in, but I feel like I need to take some sort of class on this to figure them all out and what goes with what and when.... hurts my brain. anyway..

I hope HRT goes well for you, keep in touch with us, I'd love to hear how it works for you, I'm a lil leary.

I have to admit, it has been a lot more difficult to shift weight and keep it off since I went through the menopause. Although I can lose weight on 1200 calories per day, exercising three times per week, I do have to be strict, whereas, years ago, the weight would fall off.

Somebody was telling me the other day that apparently, around the age of 50 weight goes on, at 60 it all falls off again. Don;t know how true that is, but it makes sense with regard to my own experience of the weight being a little stubborn nowadays.

I'm 42 and having problems with hormones and monthlies playing up, mine have just started again 2 days after ending.

I'm trying puriance for women which is meant to help control estrogen and cortisol levels to control cravings which would help as I've been having 2 weeks of cravings with my monthlies arriving a week late and now starting again! GRRRR!

I'm not getting through as much as I would have done previous especially chocolate wise, although I'm still needing some so they haven't stopped them completely. I've still managed to lose 2lb so far this month despite been in water retention for most of the month so far!... hoping I can still lose another 1-2lb before the end of the month!
  • I was on Tamoxifen for a year (estrogen blocker) and watched pounds easily fall off! It was one of the really great side effects. Had to come off the medicine.

Now I definitely have to put lots more effort into it.
Oprah's exercise guy said once you get menopausal, you have to work out 5 times a week at least, to get results.
    :(

I'm ramping it up, and am seeing some benefits.
  • Thanks everybody for all of your support, it does get frustrating but I refuse to give up. I am gonna continue to work out and watch my calories and just hopefully the weight will begin to fall off.

I'm considering Capsiplex plus which will help burn just over 200 extra cals and the new formula is meant to contain stuff that help with insomnia (which I've had recently) and to help control cravings. I figure its worth a try as I haven't lost a pound this week and dropped to under 1,000 cals as had to stop exercise again due to leg keeps swelling up in one place after several days of intense exercise.

I am so tired of it- I can't lose weight either. I went on the 17 day diet (Dr.Phil had it on) and was excellent for over a month. I lost 7 lbs. quickly but then I didn't budge. I got so discouraged I ended up going off and now I am trying to get refocussed. Even when I hadn't put on weight according to the dr. when I got out my winter clothes from last year nothing would do up around the stomach. If anyone finds the cure for this menopausal weight share it with us!
