I saw the Naturopath a week ago and he told me he would be getting me on Armor, but first wanted to check other levels like T3, RT3, etc. I just got a cal from the pharmacy, that they have my prescription!! I am so excited to get off of Synthroid and started on natural thyroid! I don't know how long it will take to see or feel a change in symptoms, but I am so ready!

    Great news,
I hope it gives you the results you are hoping for, there is no hope of getting NDT over here, which is such a shame as so many people say it has improved their quality of life.

That's fantastic news! I hope it works well for you. I'm feeling better and better every day on Armor.

Everyone reacts differently but Armour is what works best for me! Good luck and let us know how you feel. It will probably take some time for the old meds to work their way out of your system (especially if they had side effects that you may not have even realized are associated with synthetic hormones) and for the full effect of armour to kick in!

Thanks! I know it will take a while to see how I react... so happy to be off of Syntrhoid!! I can't really afford much hair loss, so hoping I don't react to Armour by losing any more hair!
  • hi my name is ina and i am 48 yrs of age.. in oct 5th i went to the doctor and demanded i be put on natural thyroid hormone.. i was on synthroid for 4 yrs.. i gained 10+ lbs a year being n synthroid and it did not alleviate any of my hypothyroid symptoms.. to the point where i was at 180 lbs and not happy with my lack of energy and ability to focus on anything. had brain fog, forgetfullness, fatigued 24 hrs a day no energy to do anything.. i worked at an equestrian park during the spring to fall 12 hr s a day as a maintenance worker keeping the grounds clean- intense physical labour and i gained weight every year while walking a minimun of 20 thousand steps a day- meanwhile hubby lost 25 lbs.. that is where i got so frustrated with the synthroid as it wasnt helping any of the hypothyroid symptoms.
within 2 days of taking the new meds my hubby and my 2 boys noticed a complete difference in ME - attitude, energy , everything..
gone was my aching joints, gone was the feeling that some one was sitting on my chest- i had colds all year long, and was constantly coughing up mucus.. i dont seem to have as much hair falling out than when i was on synthroid.
and gone was my falling asleep during sex. that was the worst part of being on the synthroid. .i just couldnt stay awake..
the change was bIg believe me my 2 older girls noticed right away - and hubby is now happier and so am i its the best decision i eve made for my health. i am now working on getting back on track and losing this weight.. I will never again listen to my doctor who told me it was just my age and that all the symptoms i was having was part of aging.

i have more energy now and now weigh 171lbs. i sleep better and now have the energy and the ability to focus on normal daily activities some times i think doctors are getting kick backs for putting patients on synthroid as i met 2 other ladies my age and they are on synthroid also.. . some times synthroid is not always the best thing.. it all depends upon how your body reacts the the meds. so wish you all the best

hi everyone, I also am on Armour Thyroid. I was on Levoxyl for a year after I found out I was hypothyroid. It didn't seem to help me at all because I was still tired and I was hoping that I was going to be able to lose the 27lbs I had gain in the 2 years that I've had hypo. I did lose a few pounds, but was really exhausted and tired all the time.

I finally went to see an endocrinologist and he put me on armour thyroid. He started me at 60mcg a day. I did feel a lot better as in energy, but I still was not losing weight.

after telling my doctor that I'm still struggling with weight loss, he prescribed me 90mcg mon, wed, fri and 60mcg the rest of the days. After 3 months with my new prescription and watching what I eat along with spending time at the gym, I am now down 17 pounds and have 25 more to go to hit my goal weight.

but with the armour thyroid, I did notice a significant difference with how I felt physically and emotionally. I'm sure it takes a different amount of time for people to notice any difference, but I am so glad that my doctor put me on armour thyroid.

Thanks for sharing!! I've only been on Armour for a week, so too soon to tell -- but you give me hope!!
  • I was on Armour meds for about 6 months. I started out feeling great and having so much energy. I noticed my hair falling out more and more. I finally started loosing weight also. I went back to the doctor after I noticed bald spots and the hair on my arms and legs also started falling out. I wanted to be thin but I did not want to be bald at 35. I knew I could not keep taking the meds. I went to a new endocrinologist and she put me back on Synthroid. Luckilly my hair on my head did come back eventually.

Headed out to the Naturopath for a checkup and to talk about some of my other symptoms now that I've been on Armour almost two weeks.

@dnbayer -- I did find out that hair loss is not caused by the medication - it will happen to anyone who is on too low a dosage. Even people on Syntroid and Levoxyl have extreme hair loss from being on too low a dose. Armour doesn't cause hair loss.

I thankfully am not having any hair loss right now, but I do expect him to increase my dose.

Also, I've had a nasty sinus infection/cold/flu for almost two weeks -- I'm hoping he can help me knock that out. Megadoses of vitamin C, vitamin B, etc. are not doing it. And I'm tired of being sick!

I don't know if this applies to you Terri but I thought my hair loss was solely due to the hashi's but I think it was just as likely hormonal because I was in peri-menopause at the time I got my hash's diagnosis. Once I started the armour, I noticed that my hair loss was much, much less.

Now that I am post-menopause, I still have some hair loss but not as much as I did when I was peri.

    Good luck with your appointment.

Well, I've been having headaches for several days and on Wednesday had one so bad that I couldn't focus my eyes. I guess you could call it a migraine, but I've never had one, so not sure. It made me pretty darn sick. The doc wants me to stop taking the Armour for now and go in for some blood work. Apparently increased blood pressure is a possible side affect of Armour.

I am so bummed out!! I feel like I am back to the drawing board on getting control of hypo/hashi.
  • Sorry to hear this. I know you were so hoping armour would be an answer for you.

Were you taking any other med's while you were sick that could have elevated your BP?

no other meds. He called me today and told me to stay off Armor for 2 days - then start back up on 1/2 the dose. I probably need quite a bit of it, but he doesn't want to increase the dose until my Reverse T3 comes down and he figures out if I am tolerating it or if something else is causing headaches and b.p. to go up.

    <<sigh>> I knew it wouldn't be easy!
