Whey protein powder

Ok, so I can understand the importance of the post-workout shake. Now I'm wondering what brand of whey protein to buy? I know they're not all created equal, and a search through the MFP forums gives lots of mixed results.

It's not exactly inexpensive stuff - so it's kind of a commitment, right?

Anyone have experience with these products? What's your favorite? Why do you like it better than others?

  • I use the Pure protein @ walmart for, usually around 20 bucks, lasts about a good month- month 1/2. The chocolate is good, usually mix w/ skim milk. There's cheaper ones but, I like the results so far w/ the protein powder I use while I'm losing weight.

I'm going to buy some tonight. I know they suggested some in the book and I thought I would choose between those brands. Bringing my boyfriend for backup advice :)

I ended up buying Isopure Low Carb 100% Whey Protein in Dutch chocolate. I'll see how it goes. I think it taste pretty great. Nutrition is in my food log but I think its something like 2 g carbs, 1 g fat, 50 g protein for 2 scoops!

I went ahead and ordered Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey, Double Rich Chocolate, a 2 pound container from Amazon.com marketplace. It's an isolate, with good reviews on Amazon, and has 24g Protein & 3 grams of Carbohydrates per scoop/serving.

A friend and her husband use EAS whey protein . She said Muscle and Fitness magazine just had an article (Does Your Protein Powder Suck? Dec 2011) and it scored well.

    We'll see, eh?

Yeah, I think its all very confusing! I figure I'll see how it goes and decide if I like it from there. I am also inclined to think that it doesn't make a *huge* difference as long as its at a certain general level of quality. That could be because I'm not knowledgeable about bodybuilding.

I figure as long as I'm taking it, doing the work outs and eating well it will be fine.

I have been happy with Optimum Nutrition or Scivation.

I've been using Body Fortress for a couple weeks now and its not too bad. I've actually been mixing it with a "meal replacement" shake like Slim Fast for the added vitamins and nutrients and its pretty good that way.
