Food venting....

Every time I think I have a handle on this quitting thing I get thrown for a loop. I can control my eating for a day or two, sometimes even a few days, and then I have a bad night or a long drive and I blow it with a binge. I'm starting to get really down. Why can't I control this? The whole time I'm shoving food in my mouth I'm angry at myself but I just can't seem to stop doing it. I'm happy that I'm basically maintaining right now (could be worse, right?) but I so desperately want to get back on track and I just can't seem to do it.
I know, no one can do this but me. I just want to vent. It's frustrating and I'm feeling so depressed. And then the Ravens lost last Sunday and I almost wanted to cry. We were so close! I had a craving for a cigarette, worse than I've had in a long time. I can't believe the Patriots won! ARGH! OK, vent over!

I believe that you need to cut yourself some slack...you are both quitting smoking and dieting at the same time and both are endeavors on their own.
I gave myself permission to gain when I quit smoking and only gained 5 pounds (and I also went on a European vacation during the first 6 months). By the time 6 months rolled around, I was much more mentally prepared to cut back on caloric intake. Be gentle with yourself, this is not an easy process and don't let anyone tell you it is!!0 -
You're probably right. I'm only at 75 days quit. I just feel like I should be ready to get back on the train, you know?0

You may want to try increasing your exercise, like aim for an hour a day with some moderate to intense cardio. It sounds like you're having a lot of trouble with stress and cravings, and the exercise really helps to reduce both. Granted, I'm only 2 weeks in, but after the first 4-5 days, it got a lot easier - I'm now 'addicted' to my afternoon workout, though LOL. But, the workouts also help to offset any extra munching I might do, and they offset the decreased metabolism that happens initially when you stop smoking, Good luck and hang in there - no matter what, 75 days without smoking is a huge accomplisment!0
