Celebrate your WINS!

Hi All,
I celebrated my 2 year surgiversary last week, January 19th. I've been in maintenance since December, 2010, according to my Weight Loss Surgeon. He's happy, I'm happy, it's all good. That's not to say I didn't struggle along the way or that my journey was easy. I had to work for it like everyone else and I work for it daily.
In catching up on the WLS forum, it occurred to me that as a group, we don't spend much time celebrating the "wins" along the way. The whole thing is a journey and a process. It's as unique to each individual as our fingerprints. I thought it would be fun and uplifting to do a top ten list of great things that have happened as a result of your surgery.
I'll start!
1. The obvious--major weight loss--from a size 22/24 to a size 2. 125+ pounds lost.
2. Self esteem and confidence is hugely improved--through the roof, really!
3. Better sex life with the hubby
4. I actually enjoy exercising. I went from huffing and puffing from climbing a flight of stairs to running 5 miles at least 3x a week, rain or shine. I also cycle 10-15 miles a few times a week in the spring and summer months.
5. I focus on being my very best friend each day and feed myself accordingly. I Iisten to my body now. I don't "diet". It's probably the first time in my life! I eat correctly, on a daily basis, at least 95% of the time. I have to do this or I don't feel well and my body lets me know.
6. I don't get sick as often, I don't need to nap to get through the day, my insomnia is gone, my health has improved and I no longer take any sort of medication
7. I love to shop for clothing. LOVE it. I don't do it weekly, but when I do shop, I feel so uplifted and happy that I took control in having my VSG and get to occassionally treat myself with clothing I love to wear.
8. This next one is pure vanity--but hey, so what? I love the extra attention I get from men. Whether it's the grocery store, the airport, a restaurant...it's there. I enjoy it while I can. At some point, no matter how thin I am, I'll be too old to get that attention, but for now, it's fun. It's not like I'm going home with anybody!
9. Old friends and coworkers who I haven't seen in years never recognize me! When they do, I can see the surprise and then a real happiness they feel for me. The first thing they always say? You look incredible! So healthy! What are you doing?
10. The VSG is forever--small stomach, ghrellin factory shut down, permanent hunger control...what's not to love? I don't ever have to be fat again because I'M in control of ME. And that, friends, is priceless!
These are ten things I can think of just off the top of my head. What are ten that are personal to you? Go ahead! Silly, serious, somber, vain...it doesn't matter. Celebrate your surgery here!

Ill go next!
1) my confidence has gone waayyyy up!! I used to be so shy and soft spoken. Now ill strike up a convo with anybody. I still have days I'll feel bad about my body but don't we all?
2) shopping!! I still sometimes go straight to the plus size section then relaize I'm not in a saze 24 anymore!! Being able to find cheaper nice clothes at resale shops. Actually having my friend try on a shirt and and skirt and them being too small on her! She's my bestie but it felt so good to not be the only one that happened too. We laughed about it. No hard feelings.
3) guys check me out! This is good and bad
4) my sister hates me now cause I'm smaller. She's called me fat and lazy my whole life
5) my energy! I don't get out of breath as often. And when I do I know its because I smoke (trying to quit)

I am 9 months out from gastric bypass. Here's my ten:
1. I am wearing the same size I wore in high school (graduated 24 years ago)
2. I weigh less than my husband does for the first time ever.
3. I am smaller than my younger sister, for the first time ever.
4. The scale reads what my driver's license reads for the first time in 15 years.
5. I feel good. Good about myself, healthy, confident, successful.
6. I do not have to shop in plus size anymore.
7. I feel comfortable with food - it doesn't have a hold over me, I control it!
8. Sex is way more enjoyable than it has been.
9. I enjoy physical exercise.
10. I am cold in winter for the first time in a long time - I used to have so much more insulation.

I ran today. And didn't get a headache. So maybe I'll run again tomorrow. Or at least walk at lunch.0
