I am so glad I found this group!! I just joined 3 days ago.
I am wondering what everyone does to exercise. Everyone else on here is doing crazy stiff that would kill me!!
I am very out of shape! I have bad back and neck problems and am scared to hurt myself. I am trying to find something I can do at home because after making dinner, tidying up, and helping my kindergartener with homework I feel drained.
BUT, i really need to start doing something to strengthen my body or I will continue to throw out my neck and back.
Also, please feel free to friend me! It is great to know there are other people here with similar problems.

Got a Wii? and Balance board NO?? go get one!!!
Wii fit Is a gentle way to exercise and lets you track what you are doing and your progress.
I moved on from Wii fit to Exerbeat Gym class work out, more of a dance rhythm workout with Aerobics, Hip-hop, latin samba and mergegue, karate, boxercise, and yoga/pilates. Takes some unlocking of the exercises but that how it eases you into the workouts. with streching exercise and progress reports HRM tracking too. I exerbeat can you tell
You can tailor both the wii fii and exerbeat to as gentle a workout and as short a workout as you feel you can do. Neither will punish you for doing so and there are many similarities between the two. Depends on how rhythmic you are, and if you like dance classes. I would recommend Exerbeat over Wii Fit any day but, as a you can buy a wii fit package cheap, easier to start with Wii Fit Plus and get Exerbeat later.
I love doing the merengue which is mostly hip and waist toning. Heck I dream single single double (if you get exerbeat you'll know what i mean )
Apart from that I have a cheapy static bike that I have on the lowest resistance setting, its not quite free wheeling but its close, so there is no stress on my joints, but I get get up a moderate pace.
I do exerbeat 3 times a week and bike 4 times. So 7 days a week but its not like what the people on here do that would have me in hospital.
Remember to drink lots of water :P
Remember to keep up that smile0 -
I have been wanting a Wii!! My birthday is next month so i i will drop some hints! Our friend has one and I love the bowling/tennis etc...
I know what you mean about going to the hospital! I keep seeing crazy updates that would definitely send me to the ER.

Love the wii! Also a treadmill has done wonders...much easier on the joints than walking outside. Knee pain from walking has been drastically reduced! I'm hoping by spring my muscles will be strong enough to keep the joints stable so walking outside is more comfortable. I'm noticing a big difference on my "day off" from exercise (when I exercise everything is achy!!).0

hi gillybumbler!
I have been bedridden for awhile, and just starting to come out of it (I have ME and fibromyalgia).
My methods of exercise are walking and swimming. I have water aerobics once a week for about 40 minutes. I absolutely love the water aerobics. It is so much fun. It might be something to look into. It is very low impact and you can control your intensity easily. Plus it feels so good to be in the water!
I try to walk when I can. I don't drive (I live in Norway) so if I am going anywhere it involves walking. Some days I don't go out at all, though, and then I'm just looking at the exercise I get from going up and down the stairs, doing laundry and other chores. That said I am fairly weak currently from the bad period I had, and am still regaining strength. I have a physical therapist that also helps out setting guidelines for me.0 -
I have pain that even my hair hurts. What has helped me tremendously are:
Classical Stretch the Esmonde Technique. I believe she comes out on PBS. I just bought her dvd's because it helped me that much!
Just invested in "The Studio by Ellen Barrett." workout dvd's
and walking my dog, that never goes out of style.
The classical stretch and walking are pretty much the best bet for me. They don't involve any bouncing, weird poses, etc. and do work. I found that even just doing these two have helped relieve my pain! Now who doesn't like that. :-D0 -
Water aerobics is a must if you suffer any type of joint pain. They don't have any in this new city we moved to, but once summer comes, I do my own routine in the outdoor pool. Swimming is awesome, low impact and such therapy in the water.0

I did warm water aerobics about 10 years ago, and that seemed to help. Right now I do stretching, pilates, a little bit of Zumba (I have it on my Wii), and pole fitness. Pole definitely helps build up my core, and helps my muscles be stronger on days that I'm in a flare-up!0
