A lot of people get what we call the 'carb flu' when they first start. Your body is fighting you. The stronger your addiction to sugar/carbs, the more you feel it. Once you switch over to burning fat for fuel instead of carbs, you'll be amazed at how much energy you'll feel.

If you are still doing the 'low fat' thing - don't. Fat is your friend right now, both for energy and just cuz it tastes good. Your trainers are right - it may take a couple of weeks to kick it - but if you've ever quit cigarettes or coffee, then you know what's going on. It -will- subside. You just have to tough it out. :)

Hi! I am only on day 5 so I cant say that I have a ton of wisdom, Yesterday I didnt feel well, tired and had a headache....I feel much better today but I keep waiting to see if the "Carb Flu" comes to visit.
I would say be patient and give it a few weeks!!

Your feelings yesterday were probably a touch of it. ;)

A lot depends on how carb/sugar centered your diet was before starting this type of eating. I didn't have the carb flu - but then again, I was already eating a traditional low-carb diet before I started, so dropping the little grains I was eating didn't affect me a lot. Other people who are pasta-centered, soda-swilling, artificially-sweetened carbophiles have a bit harder time kicking the habit, as it were.

Hiya - I'm on about week six... day three was probably the worst for me... tired and headachey - and wicked carb cravings... but it passed :) Certainly all 'withdrawals' gone in less than a week for me.

Don't give in!! It is SOOO worth it - I feel great!! Getting lots of comments and questions now as people notice my weight loss :)
  • I haven't had much 'carb flu' either, but I think my carbs weren't too bad, and I wasn't really eating stuff like bread and pasta very often, either. I am on day 4, and I feel great...I've had TONS of energy all week, no tummy issues (I had constant bloaty, crampy, rumbly stuff before), and though I did have a bit of a sugar craving yesterday, I managed to work through it! My only complaint was a slight headache the first two days, but that was about it.

I am actually swooning a bit over the fat eating part...I melted real butter in the pan to make scrambled eggs the other day, and let me tell you...that alone made it worth giving up bread!! :) And I've discovered REAL, full fat Greek yogurt, which is the most amazing stuff ever! So, I am not missing anything at the minute, I haven't been hungry between meals at all...and I've already lost 4 pounds!

Ditto! I'm on my fourth day...I can tell a big difference in the mornings...just last week I could hardly drag myself out of bed, this week i can really tell that I'm getting better sleep so I'm more bright eyed in the am, plus I don't have that yucky bloated feeling that carbs cause....LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
