Hi All,
I just found this group YEAH!!!! I am hypothyroid thanks to a partial removal about 9 years ago. I had a tumor within a cyst on the right side. About 6 years ago another smaller one was found on my left side. We are watching it but the truth is removal will probably be a few years from now. Anyway I try to watch everything I eat and work out 6 days a week, but really want to get into taking the right multivitamin. I know there is hot debate on whether or not you should or shouldn't take one but I want to. I checked out a website www.multivitamin.org yesterday and there are so many kinds. What do you guys take and what has been your experience.
Thanks and if anyone wants to add me feel free. The more the merry for support!
Judy

There has been a new study that stated vitamins do not benefit women and are actually harmful as you age. I suggest you get your vitamins from food and a balanced diet. MFP plan will do this for you. You can check past N.Y. Times articles on the problems with vitamins for women.0

I don't take a multi vitamin because I think I eat a varied diet but I do take the following because I think they help with my overall health and well being and thyroid support-
b complex
vitamin d3
calcium with vitamin k
I eat 2 raw organic brazil nuts for selenium
You have to be careful and make sure that you don't take anything that may interfere with your thyroid med's so check with your doctor or pharmacist before you start anything.
Good luck Judy - glad you found us!

my doctor told me there were recent studies that found vitamin B helped increased colon cancer growth. I stopped it immediately. I had been taking it for years as I had blood clots in my let and it was supposed to help with circulation. It does, but to Cancer cells as well.0

As long as you don't take it within 4 hours of your thyroid meds, couldn't hurt much!
I take a multi, and herbal mixture called extension phytonutrient, magnesium, garlic, vitamin c, and oodles of B-12 and oodles of D-3.0 -
My doctor told me that calcium could also inhibit your thyriod medicine absorption, so I take multi and calcium chew at night before bed.0

My calcium was too highs, that how the endo found my bad para-thyroid and the benign tumor on the left thyroid. Both were removed and he told me to be careful of the calcium. He said a small amount was ok. I take a multi once a day. I have an appt with him tomorrow and I will ask him as hypothroidism is new for me. Just had mine removed about 6 weeks ago.
Unfortunately because of all the water I'm drinking with changing my way of eating, I usually have to get up once during the night and that's when I take my Thyroid meds. That way I don't have to worry about waiting for 4 hours to take certain things. I keep my prescription and water next to the bed.
I take a Multi
Omega 3
Vitamin D3
Check on The B's with my appt.0 -

I do take a multi every day + extra calcium, Vit D, Magnesium, Omega 3, CoQ10. I also take Thyrocsin & Niacin -- recommended by my naturopath. I had osteopenia (bone loss) 5 years ago and was actually able to reverse it in a year by supplementing with calcium and Vit D. The Magesium is a citrate called "Natural Calm" also recommended by the Naturopath. I only take extra B-vitamins when I'm feeling fatigued - they pep me up to be able to exercise.0
