Intuitive eating - anyone want to join me?

I decided i am going to do intuitive eating. this means i am going to have to step away from logging a little. i will still be logging but will not be worrying about total calories. i will take a look to see how i'm doing but i'm not obsessing over it. just want to see what i would actually eat if i only ate when i'm hungry. i am basing my hunger levels on 0-10... 0 is completely stuffed. 5 is comfortable (not hungry/not full)... 7 is starting to feel feelings of hunger 8 is moderate feelings of hunger 9 is extremely hungry 10 is stomach growling... by eating at an 8 i should be able to eat when i really feel like it... i will eat what i want, wait 30 minutes... see if i am really hungry... if it's an 8 again, can eat something else small... check in with myself, etc... drink water, see if it's thirst.

I am starting tomorrow. I am in maintenance, I need to figure this out so that binges stop controlling my life.

Great guidelines for this method here:

At this stage in my journey I don't think it would work for me - but I hope it does for you! Good luck - and I am interested in seeing how it works so I'll be following your journal :)

something has to work for me... these binges have to stop. the key is only eating when you are actually hungry, when your hunger is a voice... not a whisper and not a yell... so for me what i'm doing is ranking it 0-10... 0 is stuffed. 5 is comfortable, not full or hungry... 8 is a voice telling me to eat because i'm hungry... 10 is a full out scream (and growling stomach). when hungry, i figure out what i want, eat it (only 1 thing) and then wait 30 minutes and reassess my hunger.. it's going to be tricky but i can do it! because i have not been listening my body, that's why i binge. i'm not hungry. i just want to eat stuff for no reason except i want to eat it. that is not good enough reason...

This sounds a lot like the book I had recommended in a previous post. I'm trying to incorporate that philosophy into my life too, although I still track and plan most meals. Especially the part about eating when not hungry - it's forcing me to take a look at what's really going on with me. Not that I've been anywhere near perfect!

It sounds like good stuff and I really hope it works well for you. Definitely let us know how it goes!

so far it has been hard to get used to. sometimes i just want to eat for no apparent reason, not hungry, just because "i want it"... so i'm trying to understand what that means for me.
what is funny is that it's over so quickly if i just ignored it i'm sure it would go away. i have to find something else to focus on when i'm not hungry but want to eat...

pretty good actually... i have had a number of mini binges but i am able to mostly get back on track. i stop and then don't eat again until i feel actual hunger. it's probably going to take a while until i am able to actually listen to myself. what has been bad is that i end up revising my diary a lot on here. because i go by what i want to eat, not what i should eat... so as a result my protein hasn't been as high as it was in the past. but i am following my instincts.
