Ketostixs are great at the beginning to test if you are in ketosis. However, to the newbies just starting out, once you get your body switched over to nutritional ketosis using them can be VERY inaccurate. Don't get discouraged and think you have been kicked out. Each body is different but after a few week (not exactly sure how long) you might not test on the sticks. Once you have your body using ketones as energy you won't be excreting them as much. There is a much better technical explanation of this in "The Art and Science of Living Low Carb". Great book to read!0

I can't get past trace I read that it takes 5 days?..I actually reached Ketosis once by accident..and got worried, I called friend who worked at Jenny craig..she tried to explain it to me but I still can't get passed TRACE! I'm drinking plenty of water..and had only pork tenderloin, peanuts, and menudo...which I don't like to much..but didn't want to eat anything with carbs...I'm going to prepare for tomorrow but I'm still very confused...:(0

This is so true! When I first started trying to reach Ketosis I couldn't seem to get past trace. I finally got a tip from another LC'er that said you need to deplete the stored glucose and increase the amount of fat I was eating. It finally took me three days of under 25g's, close to 75g of fat and 2 really good calorie burning days to get into Ketosis . After about 3 weeks of being in the testing became hard to tell, but I can see results by measuring body fat weekly.0 -

Peanuts have some carbs, and I don't think any nuts are "allowed" on the Atkins Induction food list (not sure what phase you are in, obviously):
http://www.atkins.com/Program/Phase-1/What-You-Can-Eat-in-this-Phase.aspx (Although, ironically, Atkins says their bars are good for "all phases" and many of those have peanuts in them.... hummm.....)0 -
btw- be careful...i found that any of the atkin's bars kick me right outta ketosis. you might be fine w/ them, but my body apparently can't do math and doesn't know diff between total carbs and net carbs, lol.
ETA: it took me 21 days to get any trace of ketones. sigh.0
