Question about calories

Are you all going by just your total calories eaten or your net calories?
For example, today I ate a total of 1336 calories but only netted 908 due to working out.
I know some people think you should eat back your workout calories so your net matches your goal but on Jillian's program she says not to eat the workout calories back, right?

I usually just aim to eat about 1500-1600 per day and don't worry about net anymore. That's just me0

Today was day 1 for me, so I haven't quite decided yet. I'm going to try to follow the kick start plan this week, and then see how I'm feeling. In the past, I haven't found that I have enough energy to put full effort into my workouts if I'm only eating 1400 calories or so.
Also, depending on how much (or little) you have to lose, Jillian's response to someone on Twitter this morning was interesting. She told someone who only has 5-10 lbs to lose that she should up the calories to 1700/day.

Thanks for the feedback! You're obviously successful having lost 66 pounds so it seems to work well!0 -

That is interesting about the Twitter feedback. I have about 40 pounds to lose so I wonder what she would recommend.0 -

Lol thanks. And actually when I started I was eating more like 1800 per day but it was easier to get a deficit when I weighed more....0 -
