I was diagnosed with Cancer in June 09 only 6 months after being medicated for severe PPD/anxiety. So I've had a very difficult few years. Just found out I'm cancer free in January so I'm finally able to deal with all the weight I've put on. Are there any other MFP members who are hypo due to cancer?

Did you have thyroid cancer?
Yes, I did.0 -
Don't they keep you hyperthyroid now? Usually that is the way they keep you for the rest of your life, at a very low tsh to combat the possibility of reoccurence....what stage and type of thyroid cancer did you have? Did you have total thyroidectomy with radioactive iodine to follow?0

I had stage 2 papillary with follicular variant. By the time I was diagnosed there was already metastasis to the lymphnodes.
I had a Total thyroidectomy first then I had a radical neck dissection removing 81 lymphnodes and inadvertently lost 3 out of 4 parathyroid. And went through RAI again before finally being cleared recently.
Did you have it too?0 -
That is pretty much exactly what I had....crazy!! Except I still have my parathyroids. I had one reoccurence since my original diagnosis, but have been good on yearly scans for the last five years. So I'm hoping that it is behind me now. They keep me hyperthyroid now, which I'm assuming they will do for you...hopefully that will help with weight loss. It certainly hasn't done a ton for me, but it certainly is better than being hypothyroid.0

Oh yes, I'm we'll on my way to being hyper. The end of 2011 had me hypo for 8 weeks to.do my wbs and bloodwork. Thyrogen was still in shortage so I had to suffer with being hypo. It was terrible. Packed on weight and lost a lit of hair again. But I'm finally starting to feel normal.0

good, glad you are starting to feel better again. I haven't had any ill effects from being hyper, but I do watch my calcium very closely and make sure I do weight bearing exercise often....one of the side effects of that much replacement is osteoporosis (and my bone density tests have already shown I've experienced some loss, unfortunately). Hope you get in your target range soon and good luck with your weight loss journey! Seems like you are doing very well.0
