Day one of maintenance.... i was at a pretty large calorie deficit, im talking eating 600 calories a day which was IDIOTIC, i know. I have been at about 1100 for a few weeks and now ive decided to go on maintenance because i want to build muscle and not lose weight. im supposed to eat 15500 a day....

IM SO SCARED TO UP MY CALORIES. any suggestions??

just up them... it will be scary. at first you may gain weight. but what happens is your body stabilizes at that level and you can start eating more. by not upping them your body is getting used to very little calories and it does end up hurting your metabolism. i'd say go with about 1600 calories and see how you do. most people need at least 1600-2000 for maintenance.

I was / am scared too, so I'm doing it gradually, an additional 100 calories a day, and then I'll go up another 100 next week. Good luck.

I have been maintaining for 3 weeks now and just went for it and started eating the calories MFP told me to. I have been closely monitoring my weight (weighing every 2-3 days) just to make sure what I am doing is working. So far, so good. My goal was 145 and I reliably swing between 144-146 which is right where I want to be.

I very slowly and very tentatively started upping my cals from 1400-1600. However I ended up being too scared to go higher and then suddenly realised I was losing far too much weight! Now I eat my ALL my cals and eat above 2000 cals nearly every day and have never looked back (or gained weight). I would say reduce the weigh-ins - your body will take a while to 'settle' so weigh in every fortnight and never at times when you feel 'bloated' or 'heavy. x

    Hi

    I've had similar worries.
I had a thorough chat to my dietician today and she asures me that 2000 cals per day will maintain a women's weight and that's without exercise/workouts.

I wanted to know how many additional cals my body required on running/aerobics days.
This can be between an extra 500 & 1300 depending on the duration and intensity level.

In terms of running, according to runners world, the general GUIDE is you burn off 100 calories per 1 mile run.

Hi, it is scary hen you've been eating so low for so long ( I know because I was making the same mistakes)... This is week one for me upping my calories...100 every week up will make you more comfortable doing it..do it though as we need to fuel our bodies...good luck
