Some Info about the "Challenge"

Spring has arrived and it's time to think about SUMMER, and kicking our weight loss into HIGH GEAR!! Are you making plans – thinking about what you want to do this summer, who you will see (or who will see YOU!), and how you are going to look – not only in those sexy new clothes, but in that bathing suit!! Well, stress out NO MORE!!! We are announcing the SLENDER & SEXY BY SUMMER CHALLENGE!
This challenge will start on April 2 and will run for 13 weeks ending on June 30th, which is right before the July 4th holiday! :explode:
Weigh-ins will take place each week on Saturday. Please remember to get me your weight every Saturday and BE SURE TO GET ME YOUR STARTING WEIGHT ON SATURDAY 3/31 OR NO LATER THAN SUNDAY 4/1. :ohwell:
Here's the plan for this Challenge:
We will aim to lose 10% of body weight (don’t panic , it’s doable – it’s a 13 week challenge!)
32,500 calories burned (this averages out to 500 calories a day, 5 days a week)
1,950 minutes exercised (this averages out to 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week)
You can work ahead on both Calories burned and minutes exercised – depending on how much you wanna “work ahead”. This will help those of us that go away for the weekend, or take a trip or vacation – you can work ahead and not fall behind on your exercising!
We will also be doing some “mini” challenges to keep everyone motivated! Although we will keep track of the mini challenges, they are really only for “bragging rights”. The challenges will either be who does the most of something, or who completes something the fastest, etc.
We are totally gonna rock this challenge and look Slender & Sexy this summer!!!
1. If you are interested in participating in this challenge, I need you to get me your starting weight on Saturday March 31, or Sunday April 1. NO EXCEPTIONS!
2. Be sure to comment on our group thread – introduce yourself and tell something about your weight loss journey. Be sure to check the group "thread" often and post EVERYDAY! This is important for the facilitator to be able to keep up with your 'points'.
3. Please don’t join this group unless you are willing to make a 13-week commitment to your weight loss goal!
4. We will be doing daily exercise "challenges" like jumping jacks and squats and "burpees", but also know that for those of us with bad knees or other health issues - you can adapt the exercise to something that you can do. I just want you to make sure that you are PUSHING YOURSELF!! Don't make me get all "drill sargeant" up in here on you!! (hehe - just kidding!) :laugh:
POINT SYSTEM…..
2 points – you will get 2 pts if you drink 8 glasses of water that day
5 points – you will get 5 pts if you drink 12 glasses or more of water that day
(NOTE: for water points, you need to be sure to post your water intake on the thread or else open your food diary so that I can check it every day)
5 points if you come in under your calorie goal for the day
5 points if you do the exercise challenge for the day
The “end” of the week and WEIGH IN day will be on Saturdays. DONT FORGET TO POST YOUR WEIGHT TO THE THREAD OR SEND IT TO ME IN A PRIVATE MESSAGE!!
At the end of the week (on weigh in day) – you will get one point for every pound that you have lost that week!
IMPORTANT NOTE -- YOU MUST POST YOUR WEIGHT OR GET IT TO ME IN A PRIVATE MESSAGE BY MIDNIGHT ON SATURDAYS IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THESE WEIGHT LOSS POINTS!!
Sunday is usually a “rest day” (but I know that everyone’s schedule is different and that’s fine too! - pick whatever "rest" day works for you and let me know.)
At the end of the 13 week challenge, we would like for every one in the challenge to send a postcard to the winner! It’s just a neat idea (and cheap) for the winner to get post cards from all over the globe!! When I've done these challenges before, we've sent the winner's addy out in a private message so that it's not posted anywhere public on MFP.
Other than that – this challenge is just a fun way to get to know each other and try to motivate each other to LOSE THAT WEIGHT!!

I have created a blog where you will go to see the exercise challenges for each week.
YOU WILL NOT POST COMMENTS THERE. This is only to post the exercise challenges. PLEASE POST ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS ON THE THREADS THAT WILL BE PROVIDED HERE ON MFP. Be sure to "subscribe" to the blog or save it as a favorite on your computer so that you can find it easily during the 13 weeks of challenges.

On that blog, you will notice 3 separate pages (other than the "HOME" page). The tabs are across the top of the page, just underneath the title.
They are the different "levels" of exercise challenges.
LEVELS...
ENTHUSIASTS
CHALLENGERS
OLYMPIANS
ENTHUSIASTS - For those that are beginners - perhaps new to MFP, or maybe you just haven't exercised in "years"....... or perhaps just a little more "seasoned" (notice I didn't say older - hehe), or any combination of those - the ENTHUSIAST category will probably be for you. These will be most of the same exercises as the CHALLENGERS, but you won't be required to do as many "reps". If and when you feel you are able to push yourself to do more - by all means DO!! I just don't want anyone to feel like they cannot meet their challenge.
CHALLENGERS - this level is for those of us that have been exercising a little bit now and although we want to push ourselves, we still have more limitations than the OLYMPIANS do. Weather it's our age, bad knees, bad back - or any number of other issues. This category will do more reps of certain challenges than the ENTHUSIASTS group, but these exercises will not usually be anything that is high impact.
OLYMPIANS - this level is for those that are used to exercise and really want to "push" themself to get to the next level in their weight loss.
On all levels, I have set it up so that you will have to kick it up a notch every week.
Keep in mind that if you decide that you want to start off being an ENTHUSIAST, but want to try some of the CHALLENGER level exercises - GO FOR IT!! If at any point in the 13 weeks you want to move up to the next level - thats WONDERFUL!! Be sure to let us know on the thread!!
Each week, I will list the exercise challenges on the blog page according to whatever level you are working. Feel free to look at the other levels' pages if you like - I just think that separating the challenges will be less confusing once we get started. The "fun" challenges and the "extra" challenges will be posted on the HOME page as well as on the MFP thread for that week.
There will be a new thread each week of the 13 weeks. Please be sure that you use the new week's thread as of Monday mornings.
Each Saturday I will post the following week's challenges on the blog.

ALSO - I am looking for a couple of DEDICATED and ORGANIZED people that want to be a TEAM CAPTAIN. We have over 40 people in this challenge so far and there's just no way I can keep track of all of those stats by myself (I also work 2 jobs and have to get MY exercise in TOO!! Hehe.)

Thank you for setting up the first week already. Even though I do exercise by walking with Leslie each day I think I better be an ENTHUSIASTS since I have three X-stop spacers in my low back for spinal stenosis. There are some exercises I can't adapt like the hip lift. But one thing you do know about me is I will push anything I can do to the best I can. The tricep dips were just suggested to me by my sister who runs.
I wanted to post this because I know I am not the only one with health issues that limit what we can do. If you need encouragement or help you can send me a message or friend me and let me know. I know some days the pain can overwhelm but I also know even in that if I can type on this computer I can lift my arms!
Hmmmm let me think about the hip lift a few days. I am sure there is something I could exchange it for in my PT papers of things I'm suppose to do but never did :-D0 -

THANKS ANNE - for posting for other who might be intimidated because of health issues. I don't want anyone to NOT participate because of that. We can always "adjust" some exercise challenges or substitute some other exercise for those who simply cannot do something. Please, please, please just let me know.0 -

There are now approx. 60 people in this challenge, and as of Monday, I am going to mark it as a closed group. The Team Captains will help to moderate the threads, provide the weekly statistics (to both you guys and to me) and to help moderate the stats spreadsheets (which will on Google Docs) and help to answer any questions that you have regarding the spreadsheets.
PLEASE NOTE THAT EACH OF YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR UPDATING THE GOOGLE DOCS SPREADSHEET WITH YOUR OWN INFORMATION EACH DAY.
My plan is to have everything completed and posted for you on Saturday (tomorrow) so that you can take a look at everything and ask any questions that you might have.0 -
