Is it me or are they changing a lot of stuff from the book? Don't get me wrong, it's still good, but I feel they are rushing through some of the stuff. I didn't like the casting of Theon's sister - thought she would have been a little prettier (not beautiful), because in the book, he really had a thing for her from the moment he met her - you don't get that from what you saw other than him groping her - he just looked like a perv..lol. And Stannis and the red woman didn't sleep together in the book, correct? I guess I really need to stop comparing the book to the series and just go with it. I didn't find this episode as good as the first one, but I can see how it's setting some things up anyway. Still the best show on paid TV

I think it was implied that something was going on with Stannis and the Red woman in the book?? Not really sure.. i always assumed something was going on with them while reading the books. I'm also assuming that he will not have his sickly daughter in the series?
I thought the episode was too short? I think it would have been better had it been run with the first episode. You know if it would have been a 2 hour season premier rather than just an hour. What I really got from this episode was the roles that the women play in the game of thrones... Oh and the needless sex scenes! LOL I don't understand what the point of the sex scenes in Littlefinger's brothel was about?
Loved the scenes with Tyrion, especially when he sends Janos Stynt to the wall. And the scenes beyond the wall with Jon were great too.0 -
I always thought the relationship between the Red Woman and Stannis was implied too. That is how she gets all of the shadow babies lol. I don't miss the daughter storyline, really. The jester would have just annoyed me lol.
Oh, and Littlefinger needs to buy his ladies some mouthwash lol.0 -
This episode was OK. Still having to do some developing of the new characters does slow the pace down, but character development is very important to the series down the line. I like sex just as much as the next guy but I'm not sure why we had to have the Ros and Littlefinger scene and Stannis and Melisandre table scene. Littlefinger has had enough development from the first season and the added scene to me was unnecessary. I like the mystery of a sexual relationship between Stannis and Melisandre so, I felt that scene wasn't needed.
On the bright side, I loved the Arya and Jaqen H’ghar meeting for the first time, and Tyrion taking care of business at King's Landing.
Not sure what to think of Asha/Yara Greyjoy, not good/bad, need to see more. I did like Balon.0 -
I did not like the scene between Littlefinger/Cersei! It seemed very out of character for both of them. Cersei doesn't really think of LF as anything but a coin counter and LF would never challenge the queen so openly about her children because he plays the lickspittle so well.
Also wish the scene between Robb and Catelyn were better done. After all, it's Catelyn's idea to meet with Renly...it kind of ruins the idea off Robb being a green boy king, who's in over his head whenever it's something not battle-related. As well as being kind of a mirror of Joffrey/Cersei and Robb/Catelyn that were present in the books.
Tyrion scenes were flawless as was the whole Arya/Gendry scene. It did seem to go quickly, but not much happened.0 -
I totally agree with the sex scenes being totally unnecessary - and I am not a prude by any means, but that brothel scene was disgusting at best and really had no bearing on the show whatsoever other than to attempt to show LF being an authoritive figure. Tyrion is by far my favorite character and can do no wrong - he's flawless. I also like the Ayra/Gendry storyline - one of my favorite parts of the book as well. Dany's storyline is a little slow and I thought that when I read the book, too - I can't wait until the dragons finally come into play. Yes, the guy playing Balon was good. I can see how Theon feels insuperior and why he does what he does - to some extent - it still made me mad though .. not gonna say anything more about that in case anyone reading this hasn't read the book. I can't wait to see the Renly camp though and I'm hoping they bring Brienne into the show.0

I didn't think I could be any happier with the casting of Arya, but seeing her as Arry makes it even more perfect. I enjoyed the scene with Varys and Tyrion as well, they did a nice job of pointing out the intricacies of threat that Ned was too naive to heed. Helped illustrate just how crafty Tyrion is, which you really miss without the book for background.
One of my absolute favorite things about GRRM is how he makes each character so multidimensional. I wish they'd spend more time on Cersei's anguish at losing Jaime, and her realization that Joffrey isn't the golden boy she thought. I wish they'd show the bits of the villains that evoke your empathy and the side of the heroes that give you the twinges of contempt. If I am sad about anything being lost in the translation to TV, the flatness of the characters may be it.
And no mention of Lyanna or Rhaegar at all. Very minor treatment of the Kingslayer label, the Mad King, or any of the groundwork which brings the families to this impasse in the first place.0 -

I actually enjoyed the scene with Ros and Littlefinger - if we were unsure about what a nasty piece of work previously you know for sure now!
I wasn't keen on Melisandre and Stannis being that blatant - offering him a son?? Not sure.......... Shame if his daughter and the fool aren't in it, loved them in the book.
Gendy and Arry/Arya were fantastic, his shock at saying **** in front of her, brilliant, really great raport between them - more of that, and Jaqen please!
Asha/Yara - meh. Thought Alfie Allen did good work with the emotional side of Theons return, but god I hate his character!0 -
Thought scene with LF really necessary...showed how depriived he is hidden behind a facade of normality. shows how nothing is beneath him to further his ends..and all voiced ina very reasonable and caring way. tells you to watch out when he is being at his nicest. Just love Tyrion......cant do wrong in my eyes. I didn't think sex scene with stannis in book but was implied I think... Theon and Joffery...who is worse?
Really interested in how they do the dragons.0 -
Hey!
I felt the episode was too short, but thats just because I just wanted to keep watching... and watching.
I ~lol~'d at the LF scenes, until he went to talk to her... Thats where you really saw the side of him you come to expect.
Arya - perfect. Loved it, and she plays it well.
Stannis and Mel scene... Ya, not directly in the book from what I recall but was hinted at. It's HBO, they have to fill their "boob" time.
Theon's sister - I thought she did alright... She's cute but not gorgeous... played along with him until they got to the castle then let him have it. Balon was a great casting... Didn't care for the sex scene on the ship with Theon and the captains wife... The sympathy I felt for her was just a little TOO real.
Tyrion and Janos... LOVED it. Perfect.
/awaits eagerly for the next one...0 -
... Theon and Joffery...who is worse?
Joffery is broken and only believes in himself and can't be fixed.
Joffery by far is worse.0 -

Ha ha .. that was truly one of the best lines of that show. Love Arya! She's my second-favorite character.0 -
I got the impression the Stannis and Melisandre sex happened in the books but offscreen. The shadow baby thing was actually made by sex (which is really warped if you think about it)
I don't mind them not actively having his daughter as a shown character, but I'm a bit disturbed in some ways that he doesn't seem to have a daughter at all according to the show. It wasn't "Your wife has only given you a daughter", it was that there was only death.0
