I don't know if it will work but I have to try.

Hi All,
Ok, 2 months and the scale has not moved. Excuse me, up a point and down a point or so. I am so frustrated.:grumble: I have been told that I am eating too few calories. I eat 1250 to 1300 per day with 40 minutes a day of exercise. The only people that know I am Hypothyroid are you all on here. So here goes. I found a group called "Eating for the Future You." Now this may not work for me or for anyone else that is Hypo but I have to give it a try.
I would like to weigh about 150 pounds give or take one or two. I am older than most on here so I cannot do a lot of exercise because of previous sports injuries etc. Knees replaced and now my back is bone on bone in the Lumbar region. Long story short, what this amounts to is, in order to maintain 150 pounds my calories would be 1600 calories a day with about 30 minutes of stationary bike and walking the dogs around my acreage with a small hill for about 10 minutes 4 days a week. Same exercise I do now.
It seemed complicated to me to figure out at first but the person that started the group helped me. There is a spreadsheet with the figures to enter that work it out. After seeing what he did It makes sense now. So, I will start out raising my calories a little at a time so I won't undo the weight I've lost and I will end up eating 1600 a day.
I'm telling you about this so if it works for me it may work for someone else. I don't think I'm having the serious problems as some of you because I still have half of my Thyroid. I'll let you know how it goes. If it doesn't work, oh well at least I tried.
I don't eat a lot of bread and am not a pasta fan so gluten so far hasn't bothered me. Not to say it won't in the future but for now, no problem. I have been careful of the soy as I've heard before that it's not that great for you as the "they" of the world would like you to think. I'm not saying you should try this. I'm just offering a different idea that I found here.
Please Wish me luck with this. :drinker: I hope it doesn't end in frustration.

Hi Teri,
Well, last week was my first week of giving this a go. I did the lower calorie and no exercise to give my body a signal (so to speak) that I wasn't starving it anymore. Starting yesterday I started the higher calorie daily and put my exercise back in and so far since I started I've lost 2 pounds::bigsmile: I will say that 2 weeks before I had upped my calories 150 to see what would happen. So that probably helped. That is 1 pound per week. Now I will see how this week goes.
Two pounds isn't much but that is how I want to take it off. Slow and steady. Hopefully,
Catch you later and will let you know how it goes.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
I've been gaining and loosing the same 2-3 pounds for the last 3 weeks and I'm running out of ideas. Trying to figure out what my BMR is with the hypothyroid...am I eating too much? too little? the right things? is it menopause?
I am terribly confused and know that my metabolism is to blame. I wish I had the $ to see a specialist, because I would do anything to get my metabolism going.
I read everything I can and read recently to avoid mono unsaturated fats with hypothyroid/insulin resistance. And that it is poly unsaturated that I need. Goodbye almonds hello walnuts?
Keep us updated, maybe all I need is a formula or number for my calories...0 -

Did you read my original post at the top of the page? There is a group called Eating for Future You. That is what I'm trying now. (tecallahan) :drinker: has a lot of information that she has posted on this Group. She is very knowledgeable regarding our Thyroid journey. I'm sure she may have some suggestions for you. So many others know more than me. I'm just starting out on this journey myself. A real trial and error.
I also am checking into Coconut Oil and it's benefits. Looks good or it could just be another waste of money. Fortunate for me it isn't too pricy.
Good luck, and I'll post again when I give this Plan Eating for a Future You time enough to know if it's working or not. It won't happen overnight that's for sure.
Love the picture of your doggie. He is beautiful. I hope he is ok. My dog hates when she has to wear one for whatever reason. Poor babies, they look so pathetic.:frown:

Hi Teri,
Thanks for asking. Good job Ginny!
I decided to join you. I've gone on body-builder diet before (that's what I base my present diet on), but they end up lowering your calories at the end too. I like this! Will give it a shot... ate a couple extra rice cakes to get a head-start! Think I'll add fruit in my diet tomorrow. :-)0 -

I hope it works for you. I'm still not sure how it is going to go for me. Hard to get my head around eating more to lose more but????????? If it works yea for us.

Hi Ginny,
After figuring it all out... I compared it with what the MyTrak (that I am using); its exactly the same as MyTrak is recommending. Imagine that! LOL...
I'm having trouble eating that much, appetite is just not there, but going to work on it. Hope you have success too!0 -
Debbylee,
Thank you for the success wish. I thought I was eating too much food. I would get too full. But I started adding things as an extra piece of fruit or maybe something that had more calories than I would usually eat. I have even taken to having a little of my hubby's ice cream for desert as that has more calories than a fudge bar etc.:blushing: That way I don't feel that I can't have a food if I want, just have to measure the portions and not eat the whole 1/2 gallon instead of 1/2 cup. Make sense? For ME portion control is a really big part of all this.:drinker:
Good luck to all of us no matter what we do. None of it is easy. That's why we have to focus so hard to get it right.

Thanks Ginny,
I managed to eat a couple hundred more calories, but it was a concentrated effort. Added fruit & rice cakes. More oatmeal.
I hope you can handle the normal foods. I would be afraid to eat anything with sugar in it, as that can cause hunger for me. I find that eating clean really helps me not get too hungry. Ice cream, yep, I used to eat it in very large amounts, as well as the fudgesicles... not even a temptation when I eat clean.
I think I need to start cooking more vege's & rice to add the calories needed.
I tried on more of my skinny clothes today... getting very close! :bigsmile:0 -
Debby
I am so impressed with everyone on here that can eat totally clean.:drinker: Congratulations on getting closer to being able to wear your skinny clothes. Isn't it a wonderful feeling? Sure is for me.
