Hi ladies&guys <3
I've had hypothyroidism for about 4 years now. I found out in College and since then, I've gained 80 lbs. Of course, a lot of it was my fault, from eating out and eating things that weren't healthy for me. I also stopped working out. Just recently I went to the Dr. and she told me I was pre-diabetic and weighed 249. Uhhhh that was a horrible day for me. Since then, I have been to my wellness center and they set me up on a meal plan of about 1500 calories and encouraged me to work out. In about two weeks, I've lost a total of 12 lbs. Im super proud of myself but I still need encouragement. This is going to be a LONG struggle, as Im sure you guys already know! My goal weight is 140, so I have about 100lbs to lose! :( If anyone has any encouraging words or things that have worked for them, please inbox me, add me as a friend, or just post a thread under this!

    Glad you're here - being hypo really stinks. It's great that you're winning the battle over it! Awesome job on your weight loss so far. I have a little over 100 lbs to lose as of now, so know exactly how you feel. Thing is, there are so many people on here who have done it. We can too, right?!??!!

    Welcome aboard! My only advice is when you have the energy-use that energy. You know how fleeting it can be! You can do this. Regardless of what you weigh, never forget-you are always lovely!:flowerforyou:

    Hello, this is my very first day on mfp....and I am so happy to have found this group!!! I was dx in 2005 and the weight has continuly crept on. Having 2 babies in this time period did not help in that department,lol! My tsh levels have been a rollercoaster and so has my energy. I have over 100lbs to lose and am excited to have this tool to help me out!!!!

    Hi, I just joined as well. I just found out I have hypothyroidism about 2 months ago. It was a relief honestly to know it wasn't just me that couldn't lose weight and just gained instead. I'm glad I could find out what was going on. I too have gained about 80 lbs in the course of 4 years and I'm so ready to have it back off. Hope you are doing well!

    Hey ya'll. Joined MFP last week. i am a 45 yr old mom of 2 amazing daughters (14, 22) I was diagnosed over a yr ago. i had gotten sick 3 yrs ago and lost a bunch of weight. Thankfully at the time I had it to lose. I have Diverticulosis and severe IBS. So needless to say my food options became limited. I quit eating red meat over 4 yrs ago for health concerns. When I got so exhausted to the point of lethargy 2 yrs ago my doc slowly started checking things out. Finally checking my thyroid. This medication has taken every bit of everyday since to regulate. Finally being able to have some energy back was a god send. i gained more weight in a short amount of time prior to that then ever in my life. I don't know about anyone else but my weight distribution is different then before. Mostly all around my middle. (FYI I am terribly long winded) Several months ago I found out my Severe Esophogitis turned to Barrets Syndrome with pre cancerous cells in my esophogus. I was given several things to do to lower my risk of this turning to cancer. Quit smoking, check (that day). Lower my acidic intake, challenging. Lose weight. HELP! How am I gonna do this. So I have buckled down and started getting more mobile. I am not a person that sits all the time but I have to really get back to exercising regularly. Does anyone elses body hurt regularly? If I sit longer then 10 minutes I am so stiff and the kinks gotta let go. But everyday I push. I live on an acre I push mow once a week. I have a garden I work in everyday. I have started really exercising. I'm a 45 yr old recoving addict/alcoholic (clean and sober 11 yr) been to hell and back and am terrified I can't do this. I eat between 900 and 1200 calories a day. Do some sort of exercise everyday. I hurt I'm exhausted but I gotta believe this is possible. Sorry this is so long. I am having one of "those mornings".

    Hello, I have had thyroid issues for about 12 years. I went to a general dr. for my care and my symptoms were still bad and they told me I had to just live with it. My daughter gained 60 lbs in 3 months and it was discovered that she had low thyroid as well and was sent to a specialist. I made an appt. for myself as well and they tripled my dose. For ten LONG years I was under medicated. I lived on coffee and no food and still was over weight. A specialist did all the tests for me and I am feeling alot better. My daughter is prediabetic. Diet is hugh, What the specialist said is that you should stay away from all processed food. Your body has enough to deal with without having to process all the artificial stuff. This is so important. My daughter has had real luck with weight watchers. But remember, This is something that you are going to have for the rest of your life so find a program that will work for you and stick to it. I exercise everyday and stay at around 600 to about a 1000 calories and I am still at 160, Frustrating but at least my choresteral is just over 200 now and not sky high. Do your research and good luck.

    My daughter and I both go to an endocronologist, if you are not seeing a specialist,which is sounds like you are I would highly recommend it. Also I have the body aches like that I can't sit or it feels like someone is hitting me in the knees with a hammer. Dr recomended HIGH dose of vitamin D3. It is so helpful, important to know that some brands don't seem to work as well as others so you can get your level tested after a couple of months or just start taking it. The dr. recommend 6000 a day, I feel so much better. There are also vit. b shots. stay away from processed foods dr. told us that, said your body has enough to deal with without having to process artificial stuff, that made sense to me. Don't forget to get enough calcium. Thyroid meds take calcium from you. I take a load of expensive vitiams, I got tired of it and quit for a while and when I went to the dr. I told him I noticed my fingernails were beginning to get really thin and have ridges, He said"are you taking your vitamins?"So it matters, good luck.
