With the weather getting better-I was hoping to begin running outdoors. Would anyone in the Twin Cities area like to run in one of the parks or around the Lakes together?

By 'the Lakes', do you mean Harriet/Calhoun/Lake of the Isles? I sometimes run there, but most often with a few folks from the Marathon Sports Tuesday Evening run. My pace is right around a 10-minute mile these days.0 -

How many miles do you run, and at what pace?
I generally slow down to around an 11 to 11:30-minute mile for longer distances (anything from 6 to 9 miles), and can go as fast as a 9:45-minute mile for one loop of a lake. Is this a pretty close match with what you're doing now?
If anyone else is interested in finding running buddies, please don't hesitate to speak up. Maybe if this thread is active enough, some connections could be made. It's much more fun to not have to run solo.0 -
I just started lacing my Asics up regularly again so my base has a ways to go. But pacewise I think that's about right for me at present. I think I could manage a couple loops of Calhoun or the Calhoun/Harriet loop. Would be cool to get a running group going! I use the term "running" very loosely here at present....0

By the way how is the Marathon Sports group? I know Jack (and his wife Jolene) pretty well, he's a great gut but I always assumed that crowd would be going a little fast for me.0 -
I am a newbie so a 10-11 min run works really well for me.0

I don't know Jack or Jolene, but most of the group there is too fast for me also. Which is why I have been beginning my run a bit earlier than the group. That way, I can get back to the store before it closes, even if I'm doing a longer run. Haha!
I would guess most of the runners to keep between an 8-9 minute mile, but it doesn't matter if someone is slower. Everyone there is so supportive, no one would make you feel like some kind of outsider who is 'pretending' to be a real runner. Your effort is the same as theirs, even if your pace is not.0 -

Well, as long as the rain holds off, I'll be going to Marathon Sports tomorrow (and most Tuesdays) for a loop or two of Lake Harriet and/or Calhoun. I plan to get there at 5:30 pm, so if that timing works for either/both of you, come and join me. I'll be the oversized, nearly 6-ft. tall brunette wearing a blue Minneapolis Marathon cap and a bright pink jacket.
My 'right now' plan for future weeks is to continue this earlier time through the end of April. Starting in May, I'll be cutting my mileage back to one loop of the lake, and I'll start at 6:30 pm with the other runners.0 -
The 5:30 time is tough for me. Maybe I'll try to tag along when you start the 6:30. I did join the TCRE group on meetup. Any of those runs you'd recommend for someone working on getting their legs back?0

The Sunday Easy Pace run at Boom Island is perfect for anyone who is returning to running. The last few have had people running paces from a 12-minute mile to a 9-minute mile. And if it's not to far for you, the Thursday evening run in Anoka is another easy pace group. Both of these runs are really good with the people in attendance knowing the whereabouts of other runners. There's also a Saturday morning run from Dunn Bros. coffee on Lake Street that sometimes has runners in the 10-min. mile range in attendance. But with that one, it's good to learn the route beforehand because there's a likelihood of being on your own.0 -
I am game for a lap or two of Lake Calhoun. I will be there tomorrow. Would anyone be interested in joining me?0

I live in Woodbury and would love to find someone on this side of town!0
