Handy Hints

Just like to pass on a couple of things I do to make life easier and hopefully others will share their ideas as well.

As I have just started eating some cereal for breakfast sometimes (Special K fruit & nut medley) I find it easy to weigh out the cereal and put in ziplock bags. Then its just easy to measure the milk when you want your breaky. (241 cals using 100mls light blue milk and 50g cereal)

I like a bit of yoghurt but not as much as the little cartons (plus I just think that's a wasteful way of buying yoghurt) I buy a 1 x kg low fat natural yoghurt . I put some frozen berries in a little plastic container then some yoghurt to take to work for a little sweet treat. By the time you eat it, the berries have defrosted and you have a nice treat with real berries!. (about 100 cals)

Good ideas - we use ziplock bags alot in our house too. Great for dividing up and freezing meat, portioning treats like chocolate button and keeping a few in the car with some nuts in them just incase you need a snack on the go.

Great tips. I use the zip lock bags to ration out nuts otherwise I would eat the whole packet!

I always buy my skinless chicken breasts when they are on special.
I buy a large pack then cut them up into 100g job-lots. Sometimes I slice, dice or leave as large pieces; wrap it up in glad-wrap, label then put in the freezer. As they are small packages they only take a few mins to defrost in the microwave and then you have a correct portion ready to cook as you please!

A handful of almonds for me is always about 10 kernels, I reach into my zip-lock bag and grab some, make sure I do it back up again as place it on the bookshelf behind my desk. If it's not staring me in the face I can resist the temptation!

yep the zip lock bags are great. I also divvy up the rice crackers into a 'serving' - usually a row is 100 cals, so you get 4 servings in the pack. saves me from eating the whole pack!
