One of my MFP friends is a professional fitness and performance trainer. I saw in one of his posts that he is not a fan of the "NROL4W" author, so I asked him for suggestions on authors/articles that he does like and respect. Here is a portion of his reply:
[ That being said, I am a fan of Mark Rippetoe's stuff. Good, basic strength training that gets the job done. Practical Programming and Starting Strength are excellent books.
I'm a fan of Lyle McDonald's free lifting articles on his site.
I'm a fan of Matt Perrymans book and articles on his site. ]
I plan to spend some time exploring his suggestions. I just read one of Matt Perryman's articles that really struck home with me. If you're following NROL4W while operating at a calorie deficit ("dieting"), you might want to check it out. The article is "Weight Training for Fat Loss" and it can be found here: http://www.ampedtraining.com/2009/weight-training-fat-loss
I thought we could use this thread to share informative articles we find on strength training while we work our way through the NROL4W program. And stealing from Matt Perryman's home page AmpedTraining: "Pickup heavy things. Be Pretty!"
