Recently people have been asking me what i've been doing to lose weight. Which is very nice of them of course and very flattering. I really don't know what to say though and just recommend this website. Thinking about it this is basically one big melting pot of ideas and between us i think we can really help each other out. So if anyone has any hints or little tricks they use then if you're happy to share I'd love to hear them
As for my little tricks of the trade well there's really not a magic bullet as i'm sure you all know. I have been really lucky that i created a diet for myself that i really enjoy and i look forward to meals now. One of my favourite things to eat is squid. Squid is loaded with protein and is low in calories. 100g of squid has 20 grams of protein and comes in at about 100 calories depending on how it has been flavoured. It goes great with salads and in stir fries.

I don't have any tips yet, but if you have some recipes you'd like to share that would be great!0 -
Nothing revolutionary just yet, but I am watching my cholesterol and have found Egg Beaters to be a big help in this area. I still get some protein without fat and cholesterol. I even use it as a replacement in recipes that call for eggs - no problems yet. You'd be amazed by how many calories and how much fat you can knock off by making the substitution.0

Well i'm really into my salads at the moment so i don't really have many recipes. There is one recipe i use a lot though to carb up before working out that might be of interest. Basically boil 200 g of whole wheat pasta for about 7 minutes. Then add about 75-100g of broccoli (broken up into mini florets) and boil for another 5 or so. Once cooked poor the pasta/broccoli into a large bowl. Add the contents of one 130g tin of tuna and a table spoon of olive oil. Then grate the zest of one lemon into the bowl before slicing the lemon in half and squeezing the juice into the bowl. Slice up 6 olives as fine as you can and add to the bowl before finally adding some dried herbs to taste. Mix the contents of the bowl and you have a tasty carb rich meal :-).0 -

I just had a look for egg beaters and i'm afraid they don't sell it in the UK :-(. I love my eggs too.0 -
Love eggs! I've gone to one egg and one egg white to cut down the fat.
Isn't squid very hard to cook? Or do you buy it pre-cooked? I'm actually thinking of giving the pescatarian thing a try as I generally really enjoy fish, but always find myself struggling to find recipes since I live in an apartment and don't have a grill. I've been finding that eating more meat (mostly chicken) since I've been trying for the 40/30/30 ratio is really disagreeing with me.
Tips, I'll have to think on that. I just generally try to cook as much of my food as possible so I nkow what's in it. I've also found that signing up for things that require my participation really helps keep me motivated for exercise as opposed to just straight gym all the time. I'm really trying to bring in more, I don't know exactly how you would refer to it, interactive exercise options? I signed up for tennis lessons that start in a week, doing a 10K at the end of May and planning to do lots of hiking this summer with my friends! The exercise that doesn't seem like exercise approach.0 -

This, sounds like maybe one of the best ideas ever0 -
I am very goal oriented, so setting a goal like the C25K worked very well for me. Then a 10K. Now a mud run. Then thinking of doing a sprint triathlon. I am very motivated to exercise on schedule when I have something I'm working toward. It has really pushed me out of my box, as I would never have believed a year ago that I would now be able to run 6 miles. The mud run has be working on upper body strength along with running, so I'm getting in some wicked strength training. Because I want to do the tri, I have tried swimming laps and will soon get a road bike to start working on those long rides. Setting goals keeps me motivated and my body changes with each goal I meet.0

I used to think squid was hard to cook and used to buy everything pre-cooked. But lack of options one evening pushed me into cooking my own. It was really easy although you can only stir fry them for 2-3 minutes before they're done. The texture of squid is an issue for people and it's totally dependent on cooking time. For me it's like making sushi. Every time i cook it i almost get it right.
Having a goal to help me with focus was a huge for me. As i've said before i want to lose weight in prep for my wedding. But at the same time i knew i could use my "fear" of being photographed to help my focus to train and with my diet. For the first 12 weeks i attended a weekly weight loss and healthy living group. We would get weighed in once a week. That helped me so much and now the group has finished i'm finding it harder to get myself to the gym. Although i have so much more energy and don't have the lost nights on the couch any more that focus has reduced. Maybe that's a good thing. During the weight loss course my partner and i went on holiday to Athens. The fact that i could not control what i was eating and to be frank the situation in Athens in general really got me down and i was not easy to be around. Hopefully as i carry on with my weight loss plan i'll reach a healthy balance between the mental and the physical.0 -
My most recent "discovery" is the Whole Foods salad bar.
They have tons of precut veggies. I get shredded beets, shredded carrots, shredded red cabbage, sliced peppers, green onions, and peas in a big to go container. I buy the lettuce separate and sometimes tomatoes or cucumbers. I found a low cal ginger miso dressing like because making my own dressing was discouraging me from making salads.
Take this magic concoction home and BAM you can have instant salad any time you want for a week! (Make sure you avoid things like pre-cut cucumbers because they will go bad sooner.) I have been having a heaping veggie salad for mid afternoon snack and I love it! AND it is so colorful!0 -
