Besides Your Half

Options
I know this group is all about the half, but I'm curious. So what are your running/training ambitions besides your half? My half is in September and once I get past it I'd like to cut back the mileage a bit and focus a bit more on strength training and preparing for an obstacle 5k next year, such as the Spartan Sprint. I might be a bit nutso, but oh well. I have a feeling the 5k Spartan Sprint is going to feel a zillion times harder than the half marathon!

I will probably cut the mileage back and just run some for the pure fun of it...I love to run but not always to compete...just to improve. I would like to do some obstacle runs...like the warrior dash or tough mudder, or even a mini-triathlon...these all sound like a blast!

My friend has asked me if i will do this challenge with her next year, I said provided she helps me with hearing because i won't be able to wear my hearing aids getting dirty doing some of those LOL

How does one train for those type of obstacles?

How funny...I plan to do the same thing. My half in November is my "challenge" for this year. After that, I plan to focus more on strength and speed. We have a spartan run around here, too...and my local YMCA has started hosting a survival run. I want to be able to blast through one of those!

Hey not sure if there is anything on this link that will be close to you? They have a drop down menu on the left so you can change the state? Sorry i really don't know about the geography so i just chose Oregon and there appear to be a few coming up, maybe worth bookmarking for future when you are ready to do something like that? Some of them look full on!!!

Hi, I'm Theresa and I just joined this group since I feel I need the running support! I haven't been running that long or been that serious about it until about the beginning of the year. I've completed Couch to 5k and running in my first 5k next Saturday! I also have another 5k planned in July and hopefully an 8k in August! My main focus is going to be on starting my training for the half marathon in October. Along with running, I also have started New Rules of Lifting for Women along with some kickboxing and body sculpt classes when I can fit them in! I'm just looking for some friends and motivational support to get through this. Feel free to add me! :)

Okay - I think I might be adding a sprint tri to my someday list. That seems achievable vs. a full tri, which would just feel too overwhelming at this point! The sprint looks like it'd be fun.
