Woke up to a marginally better neck this morning. After 30 min of wrangling with the kids it was sore again, but now I'm icing it at work and it seems to be helping. I'm going to see if I can get my inlaws to watch the kids for an hour this weekend so I can get a full massage.
Down at half pound this week! I thought I was only going to break even so I was amazed to see a loss  This rate is tortuously slow though! 26 more weeks to reach my goal, 6 months! I really hope I have a few bigger losses in there to spped things up.
Happy Friday everyone, just a few more hours to the weekend!0 -
Good Morning all!
I put my scale away last night!!! I was getting WAY too obsessed! I will bring it back out in a week or so!
Planning on picking up new key card today!
Have a lot to do today at work and it's a short day!!! Woo Hoo!
Have a great day everyone!0 -

You all have way more scale-willpower than me, I weigh TWICE daily! Eek!
I got an appt for an hour massage tomorrow. My local spa also happens to be running a Mother's day special so it's $20 off. Bonus!0 -
Hello good people of the Thirty Something group and a happy Friday to you.all. It's been an overly dramatic week for moi and now I can sort of sit and take stock of things. The old me would have couch surfed while boosting the share price of nestle by a few points. But somehow I remain strong of focus and i'm getting closer to my goal. Off to the cimena tonight to see The Avengers which is my treat for the week. Hope to get plenty of exercise in this weekend and a gym session as well. If my bike holds up i'll be going cycling too and at some point i have to go shopping for something to wear on my stag night in a weeks time. Thank god i have energy these days.
I was a total scale manwhore for ages. I just had to make myself only weigh myself once a week. I still cheat as that little white box is very tempting as i know how good i'll feel if i get on there and there's a loss. My fiance really struggles with hers and i've had to talk her off the ledge a couple of times. She uses MFP now and is seeing some good results.0 -
Another double ear infection in the kiddo this week. I was just happy to make it to work today. Hopefully the weekend and next week will be better.
Enjoy your weekends everyone!0 -
Happy Friday!
I am not inclined to be scale obsessed. Though this week I did get on the scale on Tuesday too just to make sure Monday was an anomaly. I usually weigh in once a week but now I am trying for twice because I am wondering if the hiking on Sundays isn't throwing off my Monday number.
I did a number of crazy things that Monday culminating in researching Tracy Anderson's weight loss program. The reviews were so encouraging! Women were seeing results like never before! Then I started to notice something wasn't quite right. One woman commented that she doubled the amount of food you were allotted and still didn't top 1200 calories... WHAT! Then I read some samples of the book and some reviews. Basically the diet has you eating 700 calories a day and exercising an hour and half! *Sigh* Top that all off with her discussion of auxiliary muscles (she thinks that you can strengthen them without strengthening your major muscles groups to give you lean muscles) and I was cured of my desire to seek out a crazypants diet. Seriously, the things she was suggesting you muscles would do are physiologically impossible.
I'd like to make a proposal:
We should stop calling everything not scale related in weight loss a NSV. Why is our world divided into scale success and everything else? Isn't the actual point of all of this to be healthier, to wear smaller pants or fit in our pants better, to have people say "wow you look great" or "Your such an inspiration", to look at yourself in photos and think "Nice", and/or to go to the doctor and know that your blood pressure or blood sugar will be better because of the work you put in? The numbers on the scale represent a measure of how things are going but they do not represent everything we are working for. I think that all the other things should just be called capital V, Victories. Submitted for your consideration. :-)
I went ahead last night and upped my daily calories. It is a little scary because the diet gremlin tells me that it will be too much but I have to at least try. My body and the scale seem to be saying that more is better. I'll give it a couple of weeks and see where that leaves me.
Bye for now,
Sara Grace0 -

Oh god i couldn't agree more.0 -
haha that is funny, I like the term Scale *kitten*! That is what I am! It is under my bed and staying there for at least a week, maybe more! Baby steps away from the scale!
My treat for weekend was the Chipotle I just had for dinner. I haven't had Chipotle is such a LONG time! Will go and work out later on, once I don't feel so full! Yes, picked up key card today after work.
I am proud of myself! Today, I made 2 fruit bouquets at work and had to dip strawberries and pineapple in chocolate and I DIDN'T eat a single bite!!! I usually am tempted to at least have 1 and I really wasn't tempted either! I knew that my "treat" was the Chipotle and that was enough! YAY! Two days in a row of not eating chocolate at work!!! Yes!!! Chocolate is my BIGGEST weakness! I did have a little bit of melon and the grapes I brought to work, not knowing I would get an order today!
I decided that I will no longer log the time it takes me to make a fruit bouquet at exercise. Seems like cheating the more I think about it.
Shorty- jealous about your massage! Hope that helps!
oh and Sara Grace, I agree! People loss inches and are able to do activities that they weren't able to do before and those are victories! Loss of weight isn't the only victory! I've been wondering this whole time what NSV stood for? lol, yes, I don't know!0 -
Non-scale victory. :grumble:0

i am not really that grumbly about it that little face just cracks me up!0

Sara Grace I nearly got roped into the Tracy Anderson Method until I read that same nonsense! I actually had to do some research on the company for work reasons and I was really tempted but ultimately came to my senses. I do like the style of her routines, though, the sort of cardio yoga/pilates hybrid type stuff.
What did you up your calories to (if you don't mind sharing)? I went from 1350 to ultimately settling on 1700 a day plus eating back exercise calories based off a BMR of 1500 and TDEE of 2400. Been doing that for two weeks and I'm finally starting to see some progress! You may want to check out the Eat More to Weight Less group if you haven't already. The gals who run it are amazing and an absolute wealth of knowledge and support. Aside from the many issues I decided to up, I just found weight training leaves me famished! I could not have stayed at the lower calories and kept up with the NROL4W program.
I am also a total scale *kitten*. I weigh every day obsessively unless it is TOM and then I skip the first two days of that. I've even been known to do some nighttime weighing on really bad days, but I try to stay away from that. I just absolutely cannot let go of my scale. I got to my highest weight ever when I tossed the scale because all of the advice said it wasn't a good judge. I don't get too stressed about the fluctuations, though, so I'm not too worried about it.
Happy Friday everyone!0 -
I'm curious about calories too. I started here at 1200 for 2-3 weeks, and did reading on BMR TDEE, etc. The part where I get confused is that MFP's BMR for me is 1328, and every other site is more like 1412, which is a big difference if you are only at 250/day deficit! So I set it to 1450 to at least be above BMR...but wondering if I'm still too low. I figure when I stall I'll up again. I think? I'm at a desk job, jogging 3x/week, lifting about 30 min 3x/week (when the neck is healed) and week after next I'm adding 1 hr yoga/week. Me thinks I possibly need more, any thoughts?0
-
thank you, Sara Grace! I finally know what that means! lol0

I am not so much a scale *kitten* as I am addicted to my HRM. I accidentally left it at work yesterday and I can not gt it back until Monday and I am stressing the heck out.....0

So glad a lot of you are using the TDEE terms and eating more! I've been doing TDEE -15% for about 3 weeks and I am starting to drop pounds again after an initial gain (of water). What makes me feel so good about the weight I'm losing now is that I know it is purely fat that I'm losing. I eat a lot of protein and do some pretty intense strength training, so I'm definitely not losing muscle. Anyway, just glad to have some like-minded company!0

My BMR is 1328 according to F2F, putting the sedentary "slimmer" me at 1600-ish maintenance. Currently trying to hit 1550 daily, eating back exercise cals to at least hit BMR (most days). The active slim me is supposed to get 2080 cals/day which sounded like a lot, especially since I didn't truly become a regularly active person until about 5 weeks ago. Almost the same regimen as you: desk job, strength 3x, cardio 3-5x . . . on workout days, eating back exercise calories (when I am hungry enough for them) puts me right around 1800-1900 total, not net. Sooo . . . I guess my point is, I think you'd be fine going up a bit more.
P.S. All the *kitten* talk is making me giggle. :laugh:0 -
So I was at 1650 daily calories and I just reset MFP to .5lbs per week loss rather than the 1lb I was at. That upped me to 1870. I looked up the BMR formula and it looks like my BMR is 1752 (age 30, weight 216, high 5' 5''). I guess I don't know how active to consider myself for my TDEE but saying I am moderately active this formula is giving me 2716. Yikes! Am I doing that right? For weight loss it is suggesting 2100ish.
I feel a little lost about what to do with that information. Those numbers are much higher than I had imagined. I guess it would make a lot of sense that I would see better results on weeks when I was going over. It's a little embarrassing that I was that far off after all my preaching about how you have to feed your body. :blushing:
OK, so I think the bravest I can muster setting my calories to is 2000 daily. I am going to crank them up to there and give it two or three solid weeks of honest tracking and see what happens. Maybe on weight lifting days I will toss in a protein shake to give me that little extra boost.
Here we go. *Covers eyes and leaps off cliff*

Haha, though I just calculated what I ate today. Blew that new calorie goal away!! It was rough going since we went out to dinner and movie with my husbands boss and his daughter. Not only did they buy us a giant tub of popcorn (popcorn is my weakness) but he also INSISTED that we get a milkshake at dinner.
Oh, well tomorrow is another day.
Carrie - I forgot to mention, I am a total HRM *kitten*! Mine gives me a little trophy if I hit my weekly exercise calorie goal. I will beg borrow and steal to get that stupid trophy.
Ok, now it is 2am and I should really be asleep. Night!0 -
Its crazy how big those numbers are isn't it? I gross around 2100-2400 on my exercise days so I get up there! Today will be super high since I'm going for a run and doing my tennis lesson.
Seriously, for anyone who has questions about the BMR, TDEE check out the Eat More to Weigh Less group or Fat2Fit site that Susie mentioned. Both are great sources of information.0
