Hello guys, I have been reading the posts about eating more to lose weight and it sounds good to me. I done the whole fat2fit shabang, and it gave me a goal of 2090 calories per day to get to my goal of 148lbs.

However, like most newbies, I am scared to do this. For two weeks, I ate rubbish and went over my calories and have been stuck at a stall.

I have just started lifting (but no real routine yet, kinda lost on what to actually do), and have discovered that walking on the treadmill on an incline at a moderate speed isn't so bad after all.

I would love to increase my calories, and will fill in the gaps with nuts, whole grains and veggies, but as aforementioned, I am a little nervous.

Would ya help me out and give me some tips/advice and explain this to me? I still don't fully know how it works and would like to make sure I get this exactly right to acheive optimum success.

Thanks a lot!

P.S - I am currently on 1690 calories a day, and have never been on 1200

I personally suggest going "all in" as opposed to slowly increasing (just get it over with!)... especially since you never went super low to begin with. Focus on your proteins, and add shakes if you need to.

Hey hun, thanks for replying. I decided to go to 1803 and not include exercise in MFP. Hopefully this works!

You can do this. It's really just about committing to the process and believing it will work. There is too much proof in this group that the process works to believe otherwise, as far as I'm concerned.

I increased my calories slowly and now I wish I would've just jumped in with both feet. It wasn't until I hit my TDEE - 20% that my body started dropping weight on the scale (even though i was losing inches). I just bumped up my calories from 1700 to 1800 because over the last few days I've been getting hungrier between meals....just more proof that my body is finally understanding the process. And get this....I've lost another 1.5 pounds since increasing this week!!

    Good luck!!

    That's awesome!

I'm so happy to have found this information. I love that I go to bed satisfied every night. I'm not losing at an insanely fast pace. I'm losing at a slow and steady pace, but with no plateaus. I feel satisfied and full of energy. Having yoyo'd in my younger years, this is it for me. I know I'll be able to maintain this because there's no deprivation involved. I'm enjoying food, wine, dark chocolate, working out a moderate amount (no killing myself at the gym with ungodly commitment that I won't possibly be able to maintain as a busy mother of two), and enjoying my chosen form of physical fitness!!

You can do this. Hang in there!

I too am nervous about this, according to doing my BMR and all that entails it says to eat 1700 calories a day due to all my exercising. It's tough for me as I'm on South Beach so I eat mostly proteins, veggies etc. and I'm just not hungry. But i am seeing on the scale the days I'm low, I end up weighing the next day "higher" which is frustrating. So I'm trying to up my calories like it says and see if it works.

I'm just not feeling very hungry, this morning I ate a huge frittata and I feel like I won't be hungry until 7 tonight. Uggh!

Okay so I bumped my calories to 1700 now I don't have to eat back my exercise calories too do I? I mean now you are talking 2300 calories and I was practically eating all day long to get the 1700 in. Right now my net is around 900

StarvingDiva - If you are netting 900, your intake is still too low. Is 1700 the number you came up with for your BMR? If so, you should always NET above that number. Did you calculate your total daily energy expenditure? Lots of us would be glad to help. Your number is likely closer to or over 2000 calories if your BMR is 1700.

It does get easier, babe, just hang in there.:flowerforyou: It's tough at first w/the fullness, and bloating, etc., but once your body adapts, that stuffed feeling will begin to convert to a feeling of more energy and eventually you'll even find that you are hungry again! All.the.time. LOL. That's confirmation that you're on the right track.

Be sure to read all of the stickies, including the one on what to expect, so that you're prepared for your new journey, and check out the vids that supplement the stickies

Remember that this is not a quick fix, but it is a permanent one. This is something that you'll be able to maintain for the rest of your life, so take your time and set yourself up for the journey that lies ahead. It's a great one! :drinker:

Thanks, everyone is so supportive. I upped my calories yesterday, I felt like I was eating all day long. I ended the day around 1630 (about as close to 1700) as I could get and I was down a pound this morning. Billions of MFP's can't be wrong right?

I will take a look at the other information so I don't get frustrated. I know it's a process so I will try and be patient, I was down 2.5 inches this week as well so I know I'm on the right track.

Hey guys, I really appreciate your replies.

I have upped my calories to 1803, which is a 500 deficit from my apparent TDEE of 2303. My BMR is 1675.

I have eaten 637 calories today, burnt off 348 calories and am currently netting 289. I am not eating back exercise calories, and am planning to net my BMR.

At the gym today, I done some lifting and went on the treadmill. I was down 2.5lbs this morning, AND I'm on TOM, so I'm estatic right now. I am also half an inch down on my waist, and 2 inches down off my bust :-)

    Wish me luck!
