Exercise, Eating Back Calories, Calorie Intake

So 3x a week I burn about 500 calories jogging. MFP has my daily calories set at 2030 (under lightly active, 2lbs per week) and that seems like a TON to me. I struggle to eat enough to fill it unless I eat junk which I don't want to do -- that's how I got into this mess. I've been losing inches but not weight for a while now, which has been very frustrating, and I need something to change.

I've been debating dropping my daily calorie intake to around 1800 to try to push my weight loss in the right direction. I've been gaining and losing the same 3 pounds for months.

How important is it to eat back exercise calories?

I get 1700 calories under sedentary, since I work a desk job. If I am hungry, I will eat some exercise calories, if Im not I dont. My personal rule is to stay under 2000 calories if I do eat extra.

I've been told to make sure, on days when you exercise, your net calories are at least 1500. I'm going to poke around some more and see what I find.

I know it's been awhile since you posted this, but did you find out anything on the exercise calories? I seem to struggle with the same thing lol
  • Same here, it'd be great to know...i know there are so many topics on this but what about for us who, on this board, are 300+? Is it any different?
  • I am 330 lb, I have my profile set to sedentary, as I am a SAHM, so although I am on my feet a lot, I do sit down a lot too, household admin, kids play etc. I do eat back my exercise calories, not necessarily on that same day, but in the same week, I only do this because of my activity settng, and it works for me.

I'm currently at 334 lbs., activity level is considered seditary, calorie goal is 1760 a day. I try my best to not eat exercise calories, and i'm seeing good results. I have asked my doctor about this and she said that it's not necessary to eat them back, unless of course i feel hungry and those are all I have left, which i'm pleased to say that hasn't happened yet. But with me at 1760 calories a day and me eating every 2-3 hours, i rarely ever feel hungry.
