feeling a little sick when have hot flashes

When I get a very warm feeling I feel a little sick and light headed and this can last up to 30 minutes. I turn the heat down and turn on a fan and I still feel the same. I had to take off my socks and shoes at work to help cool down. Thank goodness I can hide my feet under a desk. lol I'm just wondering if anyone has had this experience. I can go 3-4 days without having a hotflashes then on other days when I having them it will last all day. Thanks! :noway:

Mine are sometimes like a chlosterphobic feeling; like I have to get some air now!!! Maybe that's what is happening with you. Kind of like a panice attack!

Right before I get a hot flash I feel almost hypoglycemic and shaky like I need to eat something Now....then I get hot all over...then that shaky feeling goes away....

My hot flushes start from around the mid area of my back and spread upwards until I am bloody boiling all over! It only lasts for a few minutes and the spaces between them are lengthening.

Hot flushes - weird things they are, I swear steam flies off the top of my head at times LOL

I can't decide what's worse hot flashes or night sweats. I am having fewer of both but noticed some foods set off my hot flashes, red wine is nearly a guarantee!

Strange you should say that, because I have found fruit juice makes me get a sudden hot flush. It did cross my mind that it was to do with the sugar.....

Yes ladies, I am post meno by over 5 years but still too much alcohol or wine and yes, I will have a hot flash! Not as intense as they were 3 years ago but sugar does bring them! And watch the coffee intake...that is another culprit...I didn't quit but I cut down!

I have also had this feeling too- it was hard to explain to someone how "just feeling hot" could make you feel sick to your stomach and totally interfere with your life! I have been having soy protein shakes for breakfast and lunch because I read soy protein helps with hot flashes- it has helped with mine for sure.

My first hot flash caused me such a sick feeling I didn't know what it was! And since then, yes, when they do come on (less now that I'm using progesterone), they still make me queasy and light headed.

Another now gone symptom: morning sickness with ovulation time. I don't know if it stopped because I stopped ovulating altogether (it was happening every 3 to 6 months), or because of the progesterone cream. I don't miss it!

Mine always start with some nausea, then heat spreading from my chest up to my neck and face. Eventually my whole body is hot to the touch. Sometimes I just run outside to get a quicker cool down. The younger gals at work get a kick out of it, but there is another one experiencing the same thing, so she understands! Mine don't last 30 minutes - more like 5, but it sure feels longer!

I tend to feel nauseated during my hot flashes. If I'm not sitting down when they come about I do get light headed. I too tend to run outside or near a fan when mine occur. Its funny how my coworkers know exactly when they are occurring. Mine last for a few short minutes but I have several and usually in the evenings. ( of course I work eve/overnights) During the night my night sweats keep me from sleeping even with a sleep aid. :(

The night sweats keep me awake too (and gritting my teeth, clenching....
  • Hi am new here. I have the night sweats also, sometimes they seem to last for hrs and yes I also feel sick and shaky, I've also recently been diagnosed as diabetic. I need to lose at least 2stone, which I am finding it difficult having to watch my fats, sugars intake while eating 1500 caleries, am finding it a bit of a struggle. my night sweats seem to come for about a week then stop for a couple of weeks, sometimes get the hot flushes and as you all say have to nearly strip off (when at home) or go outside to cool off.

I also get a little light-headed sometimes during a hot flash. It usually happens if I'm flashing while I'm standing up and it's hot and humid. If I can get a fan and sit down for a bit it passes, but it's a bit unsettling.

I don't know as I only get the night sweats.....I'd be happy to swap a few of those to find out though.....I can't remember the last time I had a good night's sleep :-(

This is me, exactly...didn't know if anxiety/stress was giving me hot flashes, or if the flashes were giving me anxiety attack!

yes mine were out of control, very intense, coming 20plus times a day, one winter it was -23 and i was outside in a nighty, thats how irrational it made me

but not to scare anyone though, my mother didn't have a single symptom, her periods just stopped, i think it's worse because of modern living. my mother lives rurally, no processed foods, she has also never smoked or drank alcohol

i drink minimally now, it's still a trigger sometimes, smokings a bit of a dead loss, still trying to knock it on the head

i've been taking udo's oil for a few weeks, nothing to report on it yet (but maybe my skin isn't quite as dry)

forgot to mention when i was going through the flashes i used a 'cool down' water mist, they are sold a a hot weather product but i found they
1 helped with the intense heat
2 helped with the panic/clastraphobic feeling

as soon as the cold droplets hit you it gives a kind of 'reality check', i never went out without it:flowerforyou:

I can't say I feel ill when I have them but I sure feel like stripping down naked and it doesn't matter where I'm at. I can't wear anything on my neck anymore or I'll have them and feel claustrophobic like I can't breathe. I can't even snuggle with my fuzzy blanket when it's -20 out and not have it provoke one. I also can't wear a coat in my car because if I have a hotflash I'll get in a wreck trying to get it off!
I do have some weird things happen when I have a hotflash. Sometimes I have palpitations and as a hotflash passes and I'm cooling off, I can feel my ears and sinuses pop. I think the blood vessels are all engorged during a hotflash and then as they 'clear out', I have the weird sensations. lol
One thing I have noticed is that I NEVER have one while working out. I can't explain that.

I had to go off estrogen when my Dr. discovered I have a genetic mutation that predisposes me to having blood clots. Oh how I miss the estrogen. It completely cured me of night sweats and hotflashes both and f I knew it wouldn't kill me, I'd still be taking it.
I started taking estroven energy and it has completely stopped the night sweats but I'm not so sure it's helped with hotflashes.

Oh the joys of menopause. ugh Good luck.

My hot flashes have stopped, for the most part, but when I was having them regularly (about 5 years' worth) they were always preceded by a weird "aura" of paranoia. About 30 seconds before the HF would hit, I'd be consumed by this strange feeling that something ***terrible*** was about to happen... not a true 'panic attack' but a feeling of impending doom. The only other HF effect was an unbelievable thirst for water. Eventually I got used to the strange aura and accepted that it would go away as soon as the HF started, which in itself was no big deal.

Now my biggest post-meno problem is RIDICULOUSLY severe insomnia. But that's a whole different topic. ;-)
