What do your Calorie goals look like eating Paleo?

The caloric intake that MFP gave me for my weight goal doesn't leave a lot of room for well.. eating. If I'm eating good healthy foods like coconut oil, meat, avocado and such.

When I switched to paleo my calories went way down, I've had to make an effort to eat more to get them back up.
It's surprising how low calorie yet filling it is.
I'm set in the 2200's for gaining muscle, so that's actually a great deal of volume of satiating food. I could easily eat 1600 and feel completely satisified.
Have you started eating Paleo yet? You'll find the cravings and feeling of constant hunger of the past go way down within a week or so.0 -
I'm at 1450 calories, and I can easily make my 100g protein and 64g fat each day with room to spare, if I'm actually eating paleo and not eating a bunch of crap like I did yesterday with my chips and dip for lunch. But I think my macro ratios are a bit different than some folks here. What is your calorie goal, and what are your macro percentages?0

I'm also in the group "eat more weigh less" which encourages eating at your TDEE - 15%... I figure this higher cal level + better food choices is better for my body than a huge deficit that makes me tired/grumpy no matter what it is I'm eating!
I'm not 100% awesome at Paleo, for sure, but that's my theory anyhow
that being said- when I was attempting a Whole30 I had a hard time even reaching my (at the time) 1640 goal (1/2lb per week loss). now that I've added dairy back in and occasional cheats (today I ate 2 frosted mini wheats, oh noes) it's a lot easier to get the cals up.... mentally easier too.. though obviously if youre trying to be a good little Paleoer you probably don't want me to suggest snacking on your coworker's cereal...0 -
This is how I started...my goal is 1200 calories. I'm 5 feet 0 inches and petite. I am having a hard time reaching that goal most days as I am not hungry eating Primal. I used the formula Mark uses in The Primal Blueprint to determine my protein requirement and always make sure I eat at least that every day. Trying to eat 60- 80 grams of carbs a day. If eating Primal the fat seems to fall in line. My ratio looks like 60/20/20 as I am trying to reduce body fat.
I would figure out how much protein you require per day to start, and then add carbs until you are satisfied. Track meals for a few days to determine how many calories you are eating, then reduce calories by 500 per day if weight loss is a goal. That should give you a starting point and you can adjust as needed. Eat your protein first at each meal, and you will feel satisfied with less food.
Total weight x % body fat = "fat' weight. Total weight - "fat" weight = Lean Body Mass x .07 (moderately active) = grams of protein per day. Multiply number of protein grams by 4 to get the number of calories from protein per day.
Do the math, it will be worth it in the long run.0 -
I don't pay much attention to calories. I only pay attention to carbs (40-60/day). As long as my calories are "resonable" I don't care. When I first started eating paleo, my calories were WAY over..... like 1,000 cals over (2200). I freaked a little and tried to adjust it and I would do between 1400-1700 per day. After a while of not eating so many carbs I noticed that my calorie intake kept getting lower. I wasn't having to eat that much to feel full and stay full. Now I often have to practically MAKE myself eat an extra 100 calories or so each night just to hit 1200. Do worry about it that much. Just eat healthy food, low in carbs, and don't stress over the calories.0

I try to keep my calories between 1700-1800 now . If I'm really hungry I eat more and there are days I eat less. I try to keep my carbs around 60.
I have a body media fit so I see how many calories I burn in a day. I average between 2600-3000 depending on what is happening that day. After seeing that data no wonder I was hungry cranky and miserable trying to eat what MFP told me too!0 -
This is my first week back to Paleo/Primal eating. I did it last summer and fall and was very strict about it. I ended up losing 25 pounds and I felt amazing. I felt like a machine. I could do anything and my brain was so clear...
and then I lost it. I made holiday cookies for the kids and ended up on a 5 month long food bender. WTH? I only gained 7.5 pounds, but still I don't know what I was thinking.
Anyhoo, I'm back on it, and on day three, I'm feeling pretty good. My sugar cravings are a bit high, but I figure they will pass. I'll just plan on not worrying about the calories and just follow the plan. I know I ate roughly 1800 cal/ a day eating paleo before and lost weight.
Thank you for the input.0 -
I am a little under 5 feet and so yes my calories too are at 1200 than if I work out like today and burn 700 calories, It can be difficult...I have found adding a pat of butter with my morning eggs or a few almonds (since they arent incredibly filling but have a lot of calories help)......I am trying to keep my calories up since If I am not careful it can be very low on some days..
I also like today am making a big dinner with Higher calories, a bacon wrapped chicken breast filled with cream cheese and spices....With a few tweeks you can get those calories up....If you eat cheese a cheese stick can help with the calories also..0 -
Mine are about 1500/day
I have my diary set at 1350 but I don't record olive and coconut oil unless it is a measurable amount - if I am using it to sautee or toss veggies in to roast them i don't count it so I manually overrode my diary and backed my calories down to 1350.
I also adjusted my protien/carb/fat goals so it is about 100/85/65
of course right now this week I am not recording to see how it goes...so far so good...
I find snacking on higher fat foods keeps me fuller longer but provides the calorie punch my body needs - usually have a serving of nuts mid morning and guacamole with veggies in the afternoon0
