Hello all! I'm new to this group and will be starting this program soon (just started antibiotics for a URI). Any advice for a newbie? What are some things you wished you knew when you started?

Good luck!! Probably a good idea to wait until you're done with the antibiotics... Especially if you're running outside in the sun!
Make sure you get enough rest in between. You may not feel like you need it in the first couple of weeks, but the people who seem to do best are those who alternate run days with rest days. There's also a sticky thread for newbie advice at the top of this group board0 -
GO SLOW and don't let yourself get discouraged if you feel liked something is too difficult! There's so shame in running a 11-13 minute (or slower!) pace or repeating days/weeks, especially at first. Just go at a pace that lets you finish each run! People always try to run too quickly at first and they get discouraged because they tire out so fast. I read somewhere, and it stuck with me, that there are always going to be people out there who can run faster and farther than you. But there are also always people sitting on their butts watching TV and eating terrible foods while you are out running your slower pace.
Also, it definitely helps to run with a C2K5 app if you have a smart phone. I use RunDouble. It has each run programmed, tells you when to change pace, and how fast/far you are going. It also maps all of your runs and intervals onto their website, and let's you play music while you run.

Hey there, and good day to all.
Just signed on to this group. In the last month or so I have seen my friends here on this website doing this c25k and was curious. I see now that it is about getting up off the couch and moving and eventually jogging/running. For the past year now I have been walking. I started out at about 5,000-ish steps per day and gradually worked my way up to walking 10,000 plus steps a day now. Also I have been working with EA Sports Active 2 for the Wii, (on my 41st week now) which has done wonders for me as far as range of motion and cardio, and some strength training. I am feeling so much lighter after shedding 40 pounds. I have been thinking about trying to start jogging. I will probably begin this in June in conjunction with another weekly challenge that will be starting about the same time utilizing the EASA2 program. Looking forward starting on this part of my journey to see how I get on with this. So far my experience with jogging/running lately has been with the Wii Fit Plus . Looks like a lot of super info here. Looking forward to posting my progress here. This is awesome stuff. Thats all for now... got to run..

I wish I knew how hard it would be on Day 1 but how quickly that would change. In all honesty if I hadn't paid for great running shoes I probably would have thrown in the towel after Day 1. But I didn't and I kept going and every week was hard, but it was the good kind of hard and I started to crave it and love it. I started on March 4th and barely survived the 60 second intervals.....last Friday we ran just to see how far we could go before our legs gave out. We were supposed to run 30 minutes for our last run of week 9. We ran 40 minutes & 3.5 miles. It was amazing! And I loved it!0

I am getting excited about starting... which will be on Monday June 4th. I think I am going to do this on Monday's and Thurday's and see how that works. So I will do each stage over a two week period (Doing other cardio and strenght training during the rest of the week). Have my new shoes, shorts, and even those moisture control socks, so I am ready to get this show on the road... or sidewalk LOL. Have a super day everyone.0
