Is it possible?

Ok, I'm revisiting low carb because I'm obsessed with high carb and sugar foods. I got sucked into the nasty cycle of eating more to get my energy back, etc etc...
Here's the thing - I'm not a meat person. I hate the smell, texture and taste of meat (note - I also don't like meat substitutes or fish). Do you think it's possible for me to actually be successful at low carb?

What do you normally eat for protein? You won't be able to do something like Atkins which is high fat unless you really like eggs and cheese because you are just going to have to bulk out your diet with veg. I reckon you could do something like 100g carbs in the form of low carb veg, nuts, seeds and dairy, as much protein as you can manage and the rest in fat to make up about 1500 calories0

Ive always been on the low end of protein. I often depended on nuts, chicken (Which i do actually enjoy to an extent) and protein shake with almond milk. It wasnt balanced - i loaded up on veggies and bread/pasta. and i constantly found myself reaching for xarbs because of it. Im willing to explore and try different meats, cooked in a variety of ways before I give up...
I love veggies, so totally ok bulking up there, but I know I will be "needing" (mentally) more than that.
Thanks for the input

I was just reading that if you're a vegetarian you can do low carb but you'll want to make sure you have a ton of various veggie recipes so you don't get bored, as well as a good variety of low carb baked goods recipes. It did say vegans are going to be SOL for low carb lol/0

Oh interesting.. It might be something I want to look into a bit more. I have zero desire to be vegan, I just don't enjoy meat, and need to a proper balance rather than pasta and bread thanks!I was just reading that if you're a vegetarian you can do low carb but you'll want to make sure you have a ton of various veggie recipes so you don't get bored, as well as a good variety of low carb baked goods recipes. If you can get ahold of it, Dana Carpender's "How I quit my low-fat diet and lost 40 pounds" is a really good read, and it answered another question I saw you post too! It reviews various low carb diets and kinda compares/contrasts them so you can make the best choice for yourself, and has a chapter on vegetarian low carb. It's a bit old so it doesn't include South Beach. I got it on my Kindle for like $9, but maybe the library would have it.0

I definitely think you can make low carb work. You will just have to find other ways to get more protein in if you aren't into meat. I use protein shakes (natures best isopure low carb is what I use). You can find several with low carbs.
I was doing 20 net carbs for a few months and just recently bumped up to around 50 net carbs. I have been stalled with results so I'm contemplating going back down to 20 net carbs again. Of course I haven't been as good with my eating the last few weeks so that might explain the stall too. I don't have a lot of pounds to lose, I'm just trying to lose a few inches. But I have lost over 70 pounds since I started the weight loss journey.
Add me if you'd like. I always love to have friends that are trying out the low carb lifestyle too!0 -
I'll see if I can find it. I would typically order from my kindle, but if I can find it in paper, I think it might be easier for me to dog ear and go back. thanks! If you can get ahold of it, Dana Carpender's "How I quit my low-fat diet and lost 40 pounds" is a really good read, and it answered another question I saw you post too! I don't eat much meat. Maybe 1-2 times a week I'll have something like a burger. I'm just not a fan.
Every day I have peanut butter, a protein bar and a smoothie with Greek yogurt and protein powder. Fat mostly comes from dairy. I can't eat whole eggs so that's out, but if I could I'd be eating eggs for protein too.
I do make a point of getting meat at restaurants instead of salad, because I hate cooking meat at home and restaurant meat is always much tastier than whatever I can do. So if I go to a restaurant it's like "aha, I had my meat this week!"
You can do it. Just be willing to try different foods, or the foods you thought you didn't like prepared in different ways.0
