I already knew this, but I was just reading this article on CNN:

Another good reason to know your farmer and purchase pasture-raised meat!! I am trying very hard to do this, both for my health and the animals, as well as the environment and local farmer!

haven't made the jump yet to pastured pigs, but that is next on my list - because I love eating pigs.. I want them to be happy pigs.

And pastured raised meat is usually no more expensive if you invest in a freezer and buy a whole pig (or half cow) at a time.

It seems like it is harder to find pastured pigs. I found my source for pasture raised, grass fed beef from cows that were NEVER fed corn. I have also found my source of pasture raised chickens and eggs. I don't know about the pigs yet.... still looking.

Maybe US Wellness Meats (they're an online store, recommended, but never ordered from them). In WA, there are a few small butcher shops that have pastured pigs from local farmers... they're just nowhere near me usually.

If you're a hunter, wild boar and wild pigs are in destructively huge supply in many areas. Free-range organic pork, y'all!

I went to the farmer's market today and found a guy who sells pasture raised pork. I bought $35 worth of meat from him and $37 worth from the grass fed beef guy! I am so excited!

Thanks! Would give me an excuse to go out to the islands-- haven't made it there yet!

Andal's Meats in Mt .Vernon is where I picked up my 1/4 cow from Agape Wells Farms two years ago (and some amazing pork sausages from one of their local producers). One of my friends is getting a lot of exotic game from http://www.stewartsmeatmarket.com/ (Yelm and Pike Place Market).
