Hi there! My hubby and daughter want to start running and I would like to be able to join them but I have apprehensions about it though due to touchy needs and in general very low stamina right now. If I could learn to run I feel it would be quite an accomplishment. There is a 5k I'd like to do in September with them. We are going this Sunday to a workshop on running called , "Chi Running". My eye Dr runs using this method and thinks it's great, says you learn to breath better and that you are less prone to injury.

If you like please add me as a friend.

Hi Cathy, I hear your hesitation and totally get it. Maybe the only way you'll know if it will work for you is to give it a shot. I am using a very simple to us Android App called Ease into 4K. It assumes you are a nonrunner when you start and eases you into running with run/ walk intervals, same as Couch to 5k. A couple things I have learned so far. Go get fitted for some good running shoes before you start. Learn some good running stretches and use them before workouts. Start out skipping a couple days between runs to let your body recoup. And most importantly run at your own speed even if that means like me you start with a 15 minute mile! Hopefully you will find like I do that running is a great mood elevator and that it can help moderate the ups and downs that we women of a certain age can struggle with :). That helps make it worthwhile. That and that few things help firm you up and burn calories more efficiently. Not getting hurt is really important though, so take it slow! We can do this!
