Paleo world tour vacation test. Europe and Mexico.

Ok, I have been doing pretty good lately and controlling my food environment quite well.
Think I am 5 lbs shy of my "abs" goal. (I know that is a vain and extreme one for someone my age
but nonetheless I am so close why not.
I am 6 days from leaving on a long vacation and will be eating every meal for the next 4 weeks at restaurants.
I have noticed that even when I follow primal rules, restaurant eating tends to stunt my progress.
Might be the wine
or just might be that all restaurant food and their secret ingredients.
I am planning on getting 3x/week exercise in and doing lots of European walking/sighseeing - but know I will be confronted with non-primal decisions constantly.
Having never been to Europe, I don't want to miss out on some of the amazing food and just eat steak - but don't want to go on a carb or grain binge. I won't have access to a scale, or a gym or my kitchen for 30 days.
Mexico will be tougher because I LOVE chips and tortillas and beer but have avoided those situations.
So, wish me luck. I imagine I can't stock up on paleo treats from the u.s. and 1. get them through customs 2. have them last longer than 2 days.

Wow! That's awesome and I hope you have a great trip. I have absolutely no advice for you:frown: as I can never be successful with a diet when vacationing. Please let me know if you discover a great way to tackle that problem.... I am going to Tahiti and Bora Bora this fall for a week and a half.
Okay and please take a picture of your abs when you get where you want to be.0 -
You'll have to tell us where you're headed in Europe!
As for Mexico -- it's pretty easy, actually. Skip the tortillas (or just have half of one with your meal) and definitely skip the tortilla chips since they'll undoubtedly be made with GMO corn. Eat lots of amazingly delicious meats and seafood and veggies. Salsa & guacamole are awesome and totally paleo.Mole has nuts in it but is otherwise okay, usually... mmmmm.... mole.....

Mike,
Sounds like a great trip, good luck on the food, but enjoy yourself!
Tuesday, The Bride and I are going on a cruise to the Baltic Countries for two weeks and will be visiting The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Estonia, St. Petersburg, Russia, Finland and Sweden, I’ll try to stay as Primal as I can, which may not be a big problem for breakfast, but a lot of the lunches are at a local restaurant or farm house, and I really want to taste the local food to better experience the culture. Keeping Primal for dinner is going to be a big challenge because they have a fantastic selection of different foods. I’ll try to stick to meat, seafood, veggies and fruit, but they have exotic ways of preparing them, and some of those deserts are to die for (maybe literally?). Most of our shore excursions start early, so hopefully I can get into the gym without it being too crowded. If so, there is always a stroll down the promenade deck.
I bought some 2 ½ oz Costco Fruit and Nut sealed travel packs for the long flight (SF to Amsterdam) and pre gym snacks, if Customs will let me keep them.
If people have some advice, I sure would like to hear it.0 -
I wouldn't worry too much if I were you - I live in Ireland (I know you are not going there!) and I manage to be primal/paleo. A lot of those northern countries you are visiting eat a lot of fish - particularly Gravadlax which is a cured salmon (very good) - can you talk to the chef /head waiter on the boat when you get there? It might be the easiest way. Also visit some supermarkets and farmers markets all the major cities will have markets - you should be able to pick up loads of stuff - Germany is known for all their cured meats - I envy you!
A dictionary would definitely be your friend though!0 -

And don't drink the water! Have fun, Mike!0
