1. What do you consider to be Abstinence for OA. For me, abstinence is not eating the first compulsive bite. Not eating outside of the calories or MFP food plan.

2. Do you go to meetings? If not, what do you do instead of meetings? I don't go to face to face meetings but go to meetings on line, at recovery group and use the boards as a way of going to meetings like right now. I don't like face to face meetings and find people on line to actually be more helpful and caring.

3. Do you have a sponsor? do you think it is important. I don't have a sponcer. I'd love to have one. Maybe someday.

4. Do you find using the telephone helps? I'm just starting to use telephone as a form of support for a good friend and me. But, she is not from OA really. I use on line friends as support and support those on line all the time.

5. Literature is my favorite, I love reading the big book.

6. I feel service is important and once again do my service on the boards or at the recovery group on line. How do you do service?

7. Anonymity is an easy one. So no questions there.

    1. I am still not sure how I define my abstinence. I've been on here for 20 days and set and reset my goals as I'm learning more about nutrition, exercise and how to healthily lose the weight. I believe I've got the numbers right now, so, for now, my abstinence would be sticking to the MFP goals and being 100% honest when I think I binge eat or eat compulsively (within the plan - which is so easy to do!) - Though I have to say, in the last 20 or so days on here, the urge to eat compulsively has diminished.

    2. I am currently only attending a step group meeting once a week and I use this board as my meetings. I feel that I have lost credibility at my home face-to-face meeting because I can't stick to a food plan, though I probably hadn't, it is my perception.

    3. I have two sponsors! I stopped using both but explained to both what is going on. One of my sponsors is on MFP and doing it too, so I guess she and I support each other a bit. Maybe one day I'll be able to use my sponsor again.

    4. I used the telephone in reverse this past week. I asked my step group members to text me in the mornings to remind me to get off the computer and live my life.

    5. I avoid the literature at the moment.

    6. I currently don't do any service either... apart from doing service outside OA for a cancer charity. I keep forgetting that it is service too.

    7. Yes, I respect the anonymity of other members.

    1. My abstinence is defined by my HP. When I joined OA in 2000 I followed what the majority did but struggled. I tried 3-0-1, I tried giving up sugar but could never get that perfect abstinence I heard others share. Well they didn't share it was perfect that was my perception. I now ask my hp to tell me what to eat. If I have urges to eat between meals I ask if its HPs will then to increase the urge, if not decrease it. I have to be careful with chocolate and only eat in controlled circumstances i.e in company, in a restaurant. I do know that before eating it I will have huge cravings as a result so have to do a lot of footwork to prevent eating more.

    2. This group at the moment is my meeting. Although I have OA contact with other members outside my old group.

    3. I do have a sponsor but only chat when I am struggling. I am grateful to have found emotional recovery far easier than the physical. I also in the past sponsored myself, but it affected me too much and actually upset my emotional recovery.

    4. I love the literature!!!

    5. I try to give service to a least one person a day whether OA or other.

I do not do OA to the T. I take what I like, and leave the rest. I do the steps that work for me and gives me a healthy body and mind.

    I also respect everyones anonymity.

    Very good topic this!!
