  • Hey! I'm 5'10" and the tallest guy I've dated is about 6'1". I've dated someone about an inch shorter than me and then two other guys only about an inch taller. It kind of bothers me when the guy is shorter, but it's not a big deal. If the guy is nice and you like him, it's worth it! Although I don't think I would date anyone more than an inch or so shorter than me.

My husband is a couple of inches shorter than me, and I've dated really short guys before (before I got married, obviously). I figure a guy's got to be pretty secure to date a taller woman. My husband sure is. Works for me. I like feeling like an Amazon anyway. :)

Personally, I don't care what a guy looks like as long as he has the qualities I'm looking for -- intelligence, geekiness, compassion, a sense of humor, etc. That's much more important to me than height. Who cares what other people think?

My husband is like 1" shorter than me, but he doesn't seem to care. In fact he loves when I wear heels.

Hubby is about 4-5 inches shorter than me (depending on shoes and the time of day); been together 13 years next month. At first it was a little weird to me, I always assumed I'd be with someone my Dad's size (6'4"0. Then I went through the "feeling like Amazonian arm candy" phase and loved it! If you like him, GO FOR IT! It just takes a little time to get used to how you fit together... holding hands while walking or in the car, snuggling on the couch or in bed... that kind of stuff!

My husband's about 2-3" shorter than me, I don't mind it! A man does have to be very confident and secure to date a woman taller than him I think. He gripes about his height occassionally bc he's short, but doesn't complain that I'm taller than him. He loves referring to me as his supermodel wife ;)

I've never dated a taller guy. I'm 5'11'' and my current boyfriend is 5'4''. We don't care. He loves that I'm tall and that's part of what attracted him to me in the first place (that and the star wars tats haha). Other people look at us sometimes but who cares? Someone has to be shorter, it's rare for people to be exactly the same height. I'm not a fan of these gender stereotypes. I'm taller, make more money, and he's shorter and more emotional. I love it.
  • I'm 5'9" and my boyfriend is 5'6". He is the love of my life, and when I'm with him, I don't even notice the height difference! You shouldn't hold back from dating someone just because society tells you that it's weird to date a shorter guy. Those are old social norms that aren't important anymore. Women can make more money than men. Women can be stronger than men. And women can definitely be taller than men! Do your thing, girl, and don't worry about the rest!! <3

I'm 5'9" and had a 5'5" boyfriend before I met my husband... I loved it, I always felt like a total supermodel being the taller one :) Hubby now is maybe 2 inches taller but I still get to tower over him when I wear heels. Short men are just as hot as tall men IMO. If you're attracted to each other who cares, give him a chance!

I get asked out often by shorter guys as well. Doesn't seem to bother them, I am trying to get over it still. Gave one a shot and he sure was fun.

I am 5'9 and my BF is 2-3" shorter than me, it doesn't bother me but I think it bothers him so I usually don't wear my high heels out on dates

Personally I don't feel very comfortable with it but I've never turned a guy down just because of his height. (One guy was like 5'1") I prefer people to be taller than me in general so I'm definitely more attracted to taller guys. Someone over 6ft would be great ;)
  • I tried dating shorter men and it never worked out. In the beginning they seemed ok with the height difference but then they started changing. Not wanting me to wear heels when we went out and stuff like that. I cant deal with that I so stopped dating men shorter than me a long time ago.

It does bother me...so I just tend to wear flats more often than heels. It doesn't change how you feel about the person though, right? It's all perception. Do what you want and what makes you happy!

This has always been a hang up for me. When I was younger I felt like I was being really shallow by not dating shorter men. Now I realize that I just don't feel feminine with shorter men. I have accepted it and feel totally ok with it.

I am 6 feet tall. I have dated men taller than me. I have dated men an inch or two shorter. The little bit shorter is okay but I do prefer my height or taller. My opinion is do what makes YOU happy!

I have to agree with you, though an inch or two has never been a *big* issue, I'm just more attracted to taller men. I don't think its shallow at all.
  • Hahaha. This is such a great topic. I HATE dating shorter guys. My ex, with whom I had a kid, is 3 - 4 inches shorter than me. And I was so excited when my son outgrew him. My current guy, (9 years this weekend), claims to be my same height. I think he is shorter. He is in a wheelchair, so I never have to worry about standing side by side. I guess that's one way to compromise.

This is my husband too! He's about 2 inches shorter than me and LOVES that I'm tall and wants me in heels always. Our kids tease him that they are going to be short because of him...even though both my teenage boys are already taller than him. :p

At 5'10 I'm the shortest in my family and my mom always told me she didn't care about the race, religion, etc of whoever I brought home as a SO, they just can't be shorter than me! Haha ... I've dated my height and 6'4, but I may be open to a little shorter...

I'm 5'11'' and my ex bf is 5'8''. I've dated, not seriously involved with, guys who are 6'2'', 6', 5'10''...I'd like to try somebody a lot taller than me...just to see what it'd be like to have to look up to somebody, lol. AND wear my boots/shoes that have a 3-4 inch heel and still be shorter than him. (Kristy knows who I mean)

I have never liked dating taller guys. I'm 6'2" and have been this tall since 14, so I was usually the tallest wherever I went and through out high school - so I never even had a chance to get used to tall guys! I always went for guys around 5'8 or so. :)

My husband is 5'9" on a good day (or with shoes on, ha!) and we both love it. He's proud of how tall I am and brags to his friends about it. I don't wear heels a lot, only because they aren't practical, but I have no problem wearing them around him when necessary!

I used to get really irritated when people said to me, with pity in their voices, "Oh, it must be hard for you to find guys to date." I've found so many other people care more about if my significant other is taller than me than I do or ever did! Who cares! The only time I notice the height difference in in pictures or if we're both standing by a mirror. BIG DEAL!

My husband is 2-3 inches shorter than me, it goes up to 4-5 if I'm in heels. It doesn't bother either of us; I don't even notice until I see pictures or we walk past a reflective window! I actually think it's a bit of a turn on for him...I do sometimes prefer taller men though...sssshhhh don't tell my husband

I refused to date shorter men. I'm 5'11" and hated to feel like Sasquatch instead of feeling dainty and feminine. Most of my friends are tall, and have boyfriends/ husbands who are over 6'4". I always said the one thing I would never compromise on was dating short guys -- I just had too much of a complex about it and couldn't get over it. Years of being the "bottom layer" of a pyramid or standing in the back of the class had done that to me. Plus I love wearing heels once in a while and yet still being able to see eye to eye at cocktail parties instead of towering above. So I dated and dated and dated through my 20's and 30's and almost got married but called it off...

Then at age 38 I met the love of my life, although I didn't know it at the time because we were just friends and co-workers...until we got drunk and got busy one night during a storm. .

He's 3 inches shorter than me, and I weigh 20lbs more than him (although I'm trying to change this). He is the sexiest, cutest, nicest, funniest, kindest person and he LOVES that I'm taller than him. His confidence changed me.

At first I was embarrassed to be out holding hands with him, thinking everyone was looking at us. But he was so proud and happy and I saw very clearly that I was a complete moron. The first time he met my mom, who is handicapped, he stayed for the afternoon and built her a ramp so she could wheel into the back door of her house. I thought "how did I get so lucky?" He is the most wonderful person and he is my rock, and although I'm happy that I rejected short guys for years (because it meant I was available when he came along), I still feel bad that I doubted whether it would work between us because of something so minor.

Bottom line: sometimes you just have to give someone a chance. They may not be in the packaging you expected but it's what's inside that counts. We are getting married in a few months, and I can't wait to bend down to kiss him
