I'd like to start a strength training/lifting type workout, but will have to do it at home. Right now I'm doing 30 day Shred, but finding it hard on my knees. How can I start at home with out spending much $$? Thanks!!

I'm also doing 30DS, I love it (I lost 5 inches in the first week!) I have a bad knee, so it can be difficult, but if my knee starts to bother me, I just modify. Like, I have trouble with the impact of the jump rope part. So if my knee starts to hurt, I do a brisk run in place instead, or whatever keeps me moving and takes some stress off my knee. I would just keep with 30DS and follow the beginner and modify what you need to.

Cathe Friedrich videos are excellent. Definitely the best videos out there for strength training. They are some money, but a great investment if you're looking for a fitness related way to reward yourself along the journey. It does require getting some basic gym equipment but once you have the equipment at home, it gives you some wonderful flexibility with your workouts.

I don't know what kind of equipment you have at home, but Jamie Eason has a workout program on bodybuilding.com called Live Fit trainer which is an excellent prograam if you already have some basic equipment. I believe alot of the cable exercises could be substituted for band work.

I've recently discovered fitnessblender.com. It has body weight workouts as well as dumbbell workouts, depending on what equipment you have. I also do some of the pilates videos on netflix.

Make sure your form is right when doing 30DS and try doing it every other day instead of every day. Another at home workout (free on youtube) is Butt Bible!

If you like Jillian Michaels you could try her No More Trouble Zones. It's all strength training, no cardio and man is it a butt kicker! I got mine at Walmart for about $10

I have recently found bodyrocktv. There are guys and girls and they are cut! They do videos on website, and you tube.

Lisa-Marie (one of the girls) is also on facebook and posts a new workout everyday.

they are only about 3-5 mins and you do them 2-3 times if you can. Great interval training and buggered afterwards

Oh, cool! I'll have to do that one after I'm done with 30DS.

A really great strength training video is Jackie Warner's Xtreme Time Saver workout. 30 mins of touch weight lifting and no jumping around. I love it. I've ditched 30DS for it. It's like $7 on Amazon.

What size weights does this recommend? I'm always looking for new stuff to do.

When I did at home workouts and was just starting out, I loved Turbo Jam! They have strength videos that you can use resistance bands for, and I loved that!

I just started using a DVD by Jackie Warner. It's called "Personal Training With Jackie: 30 Day Fast Start." There is an upper body (roughly 25 min) and lower body workout (roughly 25 min) with an option to do it all together. The workout uses a pyramid format where you work your way up to 10 reps (you do 55 reps total for each move).

I opted to break the workouts up and did the upper body on Saturday and lower body yesterday. My upper body is still sore from the Saturday workout and I intentionally used a lower weight! My lower body is stiff and I feel it more as time goes on. However, it's definitely easier on my knees the 30 DS and would highly recommend this to those with knee problems (unless squats really aggravate your knees).

I just started the 30 day challenge tonight. Thought I was doing pretty good in my journey, but the fit test showed me how out of shape I really am!!! LOVE that they are so short (12 minutes each), but boy do they kick my butt :) And, no equipment necessary!!
